Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

As I read posts on here, I realize that I'm just an idiot. So many of you have problems and are dealing with things that are so much more intense than what I face day to day. Most if not all of my problems are due to my own actions, so how can I complain about how awful I feel when I know so many others are struggling with issues I can't even imagine?
I have a wonderful family who have always supported and encouraged me. I had a hard time growing up because I was teased for being fat, but at home there was nothing but love. Through some mistakes I've made and bad decisions, they've never judged me or held anything against me, they help me through so much. I lost my brother almost a year and a half ago, and my dad is really sick, both of which have affected me deeply. My family consists of my mom, my dad, my daughter, and me. Some distant relatives are out there, but no one I know well.
Now here I am, feeing sorry for myself for such trivial crap. I'm fat, I'm ugly, no one will ever fall in love with me ever again, I'm worthless, I have money issues and have a hard time paying bills, blah blah blah. Who am I to get on here and whine about pointless BS when there are so many who are hurting due to much more significant issues? I can't relate to that, so I can't offer advice or anything. I'm not saying I don't support all of you, I do, and I want the best for every single person here. I just don't feel that I can help.
I'm not sure why I'm posting this, I hope I don't offend anyone, that's the last thing I want to do. I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself even more. I really should just hide out in my house and not bother anyone. Boo hoo.

Do you think anxiety is genetic or comes from your environment? What are your thoughts?

Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ. Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...

We are raised to block self pity. The glad game! It is terrible to do this. If you feel grief, you should grieve. If you are hurt by loss, you should cry. Who is to say who should not cry?
You can't compare pain to others. You can however experience, express and accept your own.
It's not a competition.
Xx if you're hurting it's okay to come here. We would be woefully brutalised if we demanded more pain or no comfort!
Pain is pain. It all needs to be addressed.
Some days I need help and others I can help people help themselves. Frequently meet people that I cannot help and I hope they later appreciate that I tried. Self pity is debilitating and I use it as flag that I need to change my current behavior.
But I do have a lot of sympathy for people here. Some of us have issues that appear to be large, others have issues that appear to be small. But there is one thing I hold true: if our issues are standing in the way of us enjoying our life then they are important.
The President of the US (love him or hate him) has a lot on his plate, and I admire him for facing it. (I may not like how he deals with it, but that is another story! he he he) No way could I handle that load. But that does not mean that our problems are insignificant and not worth bothering people with.
Quite the contrary! If our issues stand in the way of our quality of life then by all means we need to work through them! There are enough of us here so that almost anybody can find a person who is dealing with the same (or very similar) issues. That is what we excel at here!
I can't fix a person's problems that come from procrastination, but I can sure identify with them and share what works and does not work for me.
But other issues I'm clueless on and all I can do is offer compassion.
I do know one thing: the daemons of depression love to bundle our issues up into one mass that feels unsolvable. So turn the tables on those daemons! Open up the windows and expose them to the light of day. Separate your issues and deal with them each in their own way.
Please consider joining the Bereavement group (you can find a link there on my profile!) for support for your brother's passing if that is still bothering you. (There is no such thing as a one size fits all bereavement program.)
There are support groups here for dealing with weight and fitness issues. (You can find a link for weight issues in my profile, I struggle with weight loss too.)
Please, never hide from life!
I feel like I've missed the boat from time to time, but I now realise that I have achieved quite an awful lot getting out of my comfort zone. :)
