Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I have another interview in a few minutes here. I took the day off and have been studying for about three hours. I've been putting in applications for about a year now. I just felt like I really needed the day off. Had a really rough day on Tuesday, was very weepy and crying, and almost drove away from the therapy appointment. I felt like I was "too sad" to even do therapy for the evening, but I went. Not really supposed to cancel last minute anyway, I could lose my standing appointment and I will be charged. I had a lot of trouble sleeping and the start of a migraine.
The following day at work, I was very exhausted and depressed. Our supervisor, again, pulled us all out into the main area for more dramatics. She is a new supervisor and started going off about how the kids' grades are so bad because "you don't have a staff that really cares about you, loves you, or respects you." So, she was slamming us-I mean the truth is that nobody cares more about the students than the teachers. She then went on to direct her insults at me-this is the second time now she's done it publicy. She must have found out through the grapevine or found my linkedin/website, and saw that I'm changing careers. I've taught for about 20 years now. Lots of people go on to change careers. She was saying, "well it's not like were in teaching for the money, but if some of you want to go into tech because you want to make money, then you go right ahead and do that...if you want to make the next app or whatever you want to do, you go right ahead and do that...but some of us care"
The "speech" that we got called out for was supposed to be on some historical figures, then it got off into this. I thought it was such baloney and unprofessional. The company and my former supervisor knew I was going back to school, so they know what's up. I swear, it just seems like when you try to better your life, it sure attracts a lot of haters. It's like people are fine as long as you never succeed more than they have. I've just noticed this since I went back to school and moved on with my life. I've got more negative comments, cold shoulders, haters, etc, some of them in my social circle and some in my professional life. I rarely, if ever, talk about my goals with anyone.
On the flipside, there are some supportive people, but they really are few and far between. A think a lot of people try to work the guilt angle on things. I usually feel guilty when I call out, and esp. if I have an interview, etc. But I'm getting past that.
