Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I am having very low motivation, everything seems to be falling apart. I need advice on how to get out of bed even when it's hard, and to get dressed. And I also need ideas for coping methods, my methods are rather unhealthy but it's the only ones I found actually work. I am kinda desperate and hoping that I can try something that will help me get through this.

We as humans always try to escape from fear & sorrow thru all types of distractions and pleasures. But after our distractions & pleasures end sorrow & fear still remains. We waste immense energy in escaping our whole life. Instead of facing and understanding our sorrows & fears that imprisons our life. Our fears & sorrows are nothing more then memories of past events that replays in the present, causing fear & sorrow. Is as we're living in the past and the past is dictating our present actions. How do we free ourselves from the prison of the past and future, and live inthe present without the past dictating us? We give our full attention to our fears & sorrows, when those thoughts spring up, we watch it like a movie inside our head. When we're watching our thoughts, we don't pass any judgement of good, bad, agree, disagree. Once u place ur full attention to watching ur thoughts, the mind quiets down. Every night before going to bed sit or lay quietly in a quiet spot and watch ur mind, until ur mind is quiet, and ready for bed.

How does one quiet the voices in your head though? Mine are loud and I tend to not be able to stop them. The thoughts are everywhere and they don't stop.

I will speak about thoughts, not familiar with voices. Remember, we aren't trying to stop thoughts, just watch them. If u engage the thoughts, u start to think more about those thoughts, but if u only watch them ur not engaging with them, so that first thought disappears then another one pops up. There's no time table when ur mind becomes completely quiet, but the more attention u give it , it slows down ur thoughts. U can watch ur thoughts the whole day , no matter what u are doing. Give it a try, u don't lose anything.

I will give it a try. Thanks Richielo and all who gave advice to me. I really am trying to get coping methods or something that can ease the pain. I feel like I am barely getting through each episode and it worries me. I've lost myself and it feels so empty and lonely. Me not being able to sleep and having severe depression and anxiety during the day I feel like I can't escape anymore

sorry you feel so bad. Just know there is hope out there. Medication is a must for me. i started off with prozec, that made me to sleepy, so they changed it to zoloff. it helped me for years. now I am on cymbalta and still adjusting to it. with meds it might take awhile to find one for you,but when they do you will feel so much better. Hugs
