I haven't seen this one a lot. Basically the action of this drug is a novel anti dpressant unrelated to other antidepressants. It enhances sertoergic action by a dual mechaism. It's typically prescribed for Major Depression. I wonder why your doctor thinks this one is best? Did he happen to mention why? Have you tried other anti-depressants before, but they didn't seem to work?

Hi Retrogirl, thanks for your comment. I have tried a few of the more popular antidepressants and had horrible side effects from them even at lower doses. I had a test done that determined that I don't have the gene responsible for metabolizing those drugs.

I guess Viibryd is metabolized differently, so my doctor thinks it's worth a try. I haven't heard about many people taking it, either. What I did read about it scared me...it sounds like a really powerful drug with horrible side effects. So now I am a bit scared to try it.

I figured you weren't responding to other anti-depressants or some time of negative response to them was the reason the doc put you on this med. Yeah, I looked it up in my nursing drug book, because I haven't seen it very often and didn't know much about it. You are correct. It looks very potent. I would just drink lots of water and if anything changes for the worse, call the doc. What dosage does he have you on? I wouldn't be afraid. I'd just be careful. Make sure you eat, and drink lots of fluid and pay attention to any sudden changes in mood, appetite, sleep patterns that are worse than before. Note them and report them to doc asap:)

You've been a lot of help, thank you! I appreciate you looking it up in your nursing drug book. Are you a nurse or studying to be a nurse? I haven't actually started taking it yet. I've had bad experiences with the other medicines I took, so I am not sure I want to take this one. I seem to be very sensitive to all meds. My dr was going to give me a sample pack of the meds. I think it was for a month and it started at 10mg, then went to 20, then 30, then 40mg the final week. I am hoping to get relief mostly from anxiety and intrusive OCD thoughts I have, and I haven't read many reviews of Viibryd for those conditions.

I tried it for anxiety. It worked well to curb the anxiety. I was calmer in social situations and didn't get distracted by my own body language and posture.

But in my case, my stomach just couldn't handle the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, resulting in diarrhea. Had the same problem with Lexapro.

So now I'm just on a daily Klonopin.

This probably won't help but for me it made me worse but for my sister it changed her life for the better.

KenDetroit, sorry you had bad experiences with the SSRI's. From what I read, Viibryd does seem to have more gastrointestinal symptoms than some of the other meds, which is why I am afraid to take it. Thank you for sharing your experience.
