Hi, I'm new here, my boyfriend suffers from MDD, he's been doing very good on his meds and we haven't had issues except for the loss of Libido every now and then.  He went off to his Psych today to address this and the doc decided it's time to make some changes, he went and prescribed medicine that puts him on a trip and makes him drowsy!?!?!? I spoke to him tonight and I was speaking to a stranger, I'm fuming, this doc now fixed something that wasn't broken, how do I approach this conversation with my boyfriend?  I don't see a future for our relationship if he is tripping and sleeping for the little time we actually do get to spend together.  He hasn't have sleeping problems.  How is this helping?  I'm devestated.

Be honest with your boyfriend and let him know that the new medicine is having bad side effects and that he might want to talk to his doctor about. Once the doctor knows this, they can take him off of the new meds and prescribe something else. Your boyfriend might not be aware that he is acting different.

People need to understand that the Dr.'s work for them, not the other way around. Patients tend to be intimidated by Pdocs for whatever reason and just do what they suggest. Your BF needs to go back to his Pdoc and let him know the new meds aren't working, let him know that the old drugs were working. He just needs to know if ED meds can be taken safely with Psych meds. What is the new med they put him on?

He is still on his old meds, which is Yelate and Wellbutrin, now the doc added Trazodone. I'm so confused as to why. I'm not sure if the amounts of Yelate and Wellbutrin will be changed, he has been taking Yelate 90mg and Wellbutrin 150.

So Yelate is Cymbalta which is an SSNRI Anti-Depressant and Welbutrin which is another Anti-Depressant and now his Dr. has added Trazadone, which is yet another Anti-depressant.

So according to you your BF is taking 3 Anti-Depressants, that's pretty excessive....now Trazadone in low doses is used for Sleep, if that's why its prescribed. And I'm not sure what Country your in, as in the U.S. we don't call it Yelate, we call it Cymbalta (Duloxetine). Honestly if I were your BF I'd want to know why I was being prescribed 3 anti-depressants.

Feeling so sorry for you. I can understand your situation. More than the treatment of a doctor, I'm sure you can do a lot in bringing back your boyfriend back to normal life. Try to be with him. Try to spend time with him. Do the things that makes him happy. Prepare him good food. Take him to good places. It can bring a lot of changes to his life.

So we are a little over a week in on the new meds, the dosages of the Yelate and Welbutrin has been adjusted, and the combination is working. I still feel that 3 anti-depressants is a lot, but I'm starting to see what the doc is doing.
