Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
First of all, report and ban. If there is something particularly bad that a troll does (like start a post that is truly evil) copy and past the "URL" of the post into the report abuse PM. You can also do the same thing with the URL of troll's profile.
For example, the URL of this topic is:
http://dailystrength.org/c/Depression/forum/4106854-trolls#addcomment_anchor
and you can get it from the window in your browser. This helps DS staff get to the offensive material much faster.
If you chose to engage the troll (and again, REPORT AND IGNORE IS THE BEST METHOD) please, refrain from foul language, and don't make unprovable statements. We all remember times from our childhood when somebody hit us, then when we hit back we got caught and punished, but the person who hit us first got off with nuthing!
Again, report and ignore is the best way. But if you do engage, don't expand the fight to friends of the troll, or suspected friends of the suspected troll. Then those people may feel obligated to jump in and include your friends. It goes from bad to worse
At the risk of repeating myself, please consider the report and ignore method of dealing with trolls. Don't give insensitive people the power to make you feel bad!
