Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Remind your son that it's not his fault, clearly the driver was in a deep dark place and must have been there for quite a while. What he did had nothing to do with this particular load.
How terrible for the driver's family to have to get this news.
thinking of all involved...
My son was the one who had to call them yesterday to tell them about their driver.. Raul said "Your joking right?"... So very sad..
I know that my Aunt has not been right since she found my Mom dead from suicide on Christmas Day. My Brother blames himself because he had an argument with our Mom the night before. I blame myself for not being more of a presence in her life. The whole family was devastated, and there were 8 other suicides the year after hers in my family.
So yes, anyone considering doing something like that, please stop and consider the pain and devastation you will leave behind.
My sister in law (use to be married to my brother) had her oldest son hang himself in his grandmothers garage.. absolutely horrible..
OMG.. Raul just called.. I answered the phone.. I told him how sorry I was.. I began to cry.. How sad..
It has been 10 years since my Mom's suicide, but it still hurts. Christmas is a sad day for me, when it should be a happy, joyful day.
I wish there was a way to talk people out of it so that no one has to know the pain that comes with being left behind when someone they love chooses to leave this world.
docu-film "Boy Interrupted" included a segment where a therapist makes the point that people aren't in this "Ophelia-like" state (I'm paraphrasing here) before they complete suicide. Often they appear very rational and at-peace; they are even often functioning well enough to write a well-structured letter. This is in contrast to what the stereotype that is propagated is. People
who kill themselves have something that breaks in their brain that overrides
the will to live. Usually that is some kind of mental disorder in adults.
They are what we call involuntarily deprived of their reason. They have no
idea what anyone else is thinking or feeling at that point. They are lost
in a world of pain.
You did nothing wrong. You didn't miss anything. It was just a plain
tragedy, a senseless act. Nobody's fault, really, which is what makes it so
horrible.
thanks for sharing the story.
