Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
This morning I woke up sick as a dog. I feel like I've had the worst flu ever. Throat hurts, sick to stomach, aches everywhere. I want to fall over. I was vaccinated against the Covid in Feb/March of this year... I'm wondering how it is actually working out...my results come back tomorrow, I either have the Delta breakthrough Covid or some other really crappy virus. I just got a new job. They are mad. Well what the hell am I supposed to do? I worked remotely for the whole 18 months as a schoolteacher and chose to go back because I thought having this vaccine would allow me to get back in there. But, because it seems like a whole lot of people just don't want to get inoculated, we have this other variant that is getting spread becuase people would rather not. Now it's spreading all over the place.
When I went back to work, we had a choice whether or not to wear a mask. I chose not to because: A. I stepped up to the plate and got vaccinated. B. All I did for a year and a half was quarantine and wear a mask while I worked from home. When does this end? Possibly never?? I suppose I could blame myself if the test comes back positive, but maybe not, it's so contagious I might have gotten it anyway. Being back into a classroom with tons of people in there without ventilation is the maximum exposure I've had since this started.
I feel like the universe is trying to tell me something about this job, since the beginning, there have been endless technical problems and logisitical problems-every time I turn around literally something breaks or doesn't work. And since then, no lie, literally everything that has gone wrong, did...I was almost unable to leave today to get to urgent care because the road outside my house was being re-paved. The guy was nice and let me out on the portion of the road that was not being paved yet.
My cell service and GPS went down yesterday. I drove around for an hour yesterday because the GPS was not working. The cell customer service never answered...they will only answer if you enter a pin...I did...the system would not accept the pin. GPS was out today, too. Everywhere I went all over the city was construction, construction, construction. Detours left and right. I was unable to take the usual route to work yesterday because they closed the freeway to get to my job.
Today, when I went to the first urgent care that was surrounded by construction, an argument broke out in the lobby while I was waiting to get Covid tested. The wait time on the screen for my name said 7 hours. I went to the counter to inquire whether 7 hours was correct. She was really nasty toward me. I sat down. This same front desk nurse literally got into a confrontation in the lobby with this guy who was being difficult, but what she did next was totally unacceptable. She tore his paperwork up into shreds right in front of him, creating a massive scene. I was so nervous and worried a fight would break out so I went to another urgent care that I could get to without GPS and they helped me right away. The place was FULL of people being tested for virus. One man was trying to control his kids, who were misbehaving, and the results came back for his young child, this poor kid starting crying, "Daddy, it says positive? I have Cornoavirus?!" I felt so bad for that kid.
I told them at the counter what happened at the previous urgent care and they refunded me my co-pay from the original place and said I was not supposed to be charged. Becuase I had lost wireless signal, I could hardly find an urgent care place and I was screaming and crying and pounding my steering wheel. I lost it at the service provider, just screaming, telling them I should have connection because I had an urgent medical need. I think I will get a landline, now. I will go back to the old school way of getting directions, I was around before we even had internet, so I will work through this disaster. I used to get directions the old school way and make calls the old school way. I will do it again. We had torrential rain and flooding on the way home. I parked on the adjacent street to get back to my house because of asphalt repaving. The flooding on the way home almost threatened to send our cars floating.
I wouldn't have been able to call an Uber because I'm coughing and contagious, so I had to drive-or else what-call an ambulance? Now, my boss is mad that I'm sick. Well WTH? They are a school, they could choose to work hybrid or remote if they so chose-but they refused to all last year through 2020. I mean what were they expecting, putting full classrooms of people thrown in with no ventilation. Some places are still remote. My #1 job is to sanitize all day long, which I do, and it didn't keep me from getting sick. It just seems like an overwhelming amount of signs, as after I accepted this job I received a call back on my resume for a remote position. I had thought about calling them back, and now I think I will.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
to take care of yourself. Do you have a nurse at your school? I used to work at the school and sometimes they can be helpful in advocating for you.
I am sure that it is tough when a teacher is out, but you may have COVID! I was just in Florida and the place is a petri dish for corona.
Who would have thought that ICU beds would be filling up, that young children would be contracting corona virus.
Do you have a union rep? I hope that you can find someone to support you and if you can't know that you just had a crappy day and that things will get better. If they don't I am sure that you have plenty of options for teaching jobs. Hang in there.
