Doug, it's not working, at all!!

I guess this means we have to watch more than one board on here now? I mean, check the general discussion and then check this new board to see if anyone needs help...

I am wondering if the problem isn't that this group is so big... not like that's really something you can solve b/c a lot of people need the depression group, it just seems like the atmosphere here is different from the other DS groups I belong to, and the difference comes down to the size of the group.

I think this new category is a good idea in theory, but then the main board page needs to show more than just the last post in each category.. as Dearest said it's a problem that people in urgent need of help can still get lost in the avalanche of posts.

Doug, we have enough problems to try to sort out alone with no help from DS. Please don't add to them.

Well, DS isn't here to help us... they're here to give us a place to meet and help each other. They're just trying to find the best way to do that, I guess...

dearest and others - the reality is that this community has goten so big that we need to create more "room"...multiple topics are created every minute, so nothing stays on the front page for very long. i'm trying to steer folks to the best, most focused place possible.

i'm definitely willing to make changes, and i see the unhappiness on the boards...i'm listening.

I dunno why I still find it easier? Posts don't go flying off the front page so quickly. I noticed things that shouldve gotten overwelming support here were lost in the crowd of fighting and other stuff...maybe there is another way that will make everyone happy?

I think this might work, but I also think that people who are in dire need of help should focus their attention on contacting medical personnel first & foremost. It scares me when I read messages about suicide & things of that nature, so I think those people need professional help before they go online.

i agree with post #23...yes, we're offering a place for people in Crisis to talk to one another...but this place is no substitute for getting professional help.

Very well said. I think it's a great idea!!! But we must always keep in mind that we are all feeling almost the same things here and we are not professionals so there is just so much we can do or say to help someone.

I like this idea very much. I might not like going back and forth on boards but we do it all the time one way or the other.

There have been occasional posts in the past regarding "board management" on internet browsers and the challenge some folks face in monitoring several threads simultaneously.

For me, on a PowerBook G4 running Safari as the browser, it's easy to create a large number of tabs at the top of one browser window. I believe PC users can also create tabs.

Safari tabs display the shortened name for each thread within each tab.

For simultaneous surfing of different boards, this may require a separate browser window for each board.

If there could only be one, new board created aside from the traditional "Depression" board, then I believe strongly that the "Crisis" board merits this designation, since there have been many concerns raised historically about genuine, urgent needs being pushed to the bottom of the board by a thread describing bath lotions or the contents of one's pantry.
