I am thinking about applying SSI because right now I can't focus and concentrate at all. I quit school because of my conditions. I am suffering from anxiety and major depression. My moods change all of the times. One minute I am happy and the next minute I am sad. I wonder would I qualifiy for SSI because of my conditions. Should I apply for SSI? Any opinion?

Good luck with that, I applied 5 years ago, and still waiting on determination in a higher civil court.

I would if I were you , I did and got it , but mine was SSDI it's a pain in the butt to get , but worth it good luck.

For the length of time it takes, you'd probably be able to find a job and a therapist.

among other things, to qualify you need at least ONE doctor to say you cannot work and why. Without that, forget it. Even then, it can take YEARS to get awarded. If you are going to do it, have the doc ready to write a letter, and file right away .. then plan to appeal, wait, get a lawyer, appeal again, and wait.

It is also based on how much work you have done over your working lifetime. Most young people do not have a 'big enough' SS account to make it worth the effort to get disability.

Go to www.socialsecurity.gov and get info on what your benefit would be IF you won 100% disability. You may find it will not be worth the trouble to make a claim.

i am with repo only took me 2 1/2 months on first try and i am on SSDI...glad i got lucky it has been well worth it! on it since 2000 i do still work when i am able, made it as long as a yr and 1/2 with a job 3 yrs ago...i keep going back when able though...can work part time and still drawl all benefits too...worth a shot

5 years, with an attorney, AND a benefit for the same disability from the Veterans Administration. Some DO get lucky. GENERALLY, it is an arduous experience. If you think the benefit will help, get a doc to 'support you' from a medical standpoint and go for it.

Apply if you want to. Be prepared to wait a LONG time for it to actually be approved though.

in 07 I waited 9 months to be turned down (it was for my son).

Now I think he will qualify, but am unsure if I am up to going through that whole process again.

Good luck, and if you do it...start gathering up your info / copies / documents now.
