Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I've never actively avoided a therapist before, it's just new to me. I was not sure why I was doing it, but I had a talk with a trusted friend, and he said that maybe I don't trust her. I never thought of that. That just really made me think. Then I had to ask myself why I don't trust her.
I think it's because I feel like I am performing and have to accomplish something. I initially went in to consult about work issues, and she used to be an HR rep. Trouble is, my real and true main issue is severe depression, which I've battled my whole life. She hands me all those worksheets and lists, and recruiters to contact, and my stress level absolutely skyrockets. Then, when none of it works, I've failed. I try to explain to her over and over again that everyone in the market is going through it, and she just expects more. The reason that I am there is to process my feelings, not to meet some performance goal. I think at the end of the day, she doesn't understand how I actually feel, and that's a problem. She thinks that by propelling and forcing me into action and checking a bunch of things off of a list, my problem will be "solved." But that's not it. Not only do I have work issues, I also have mental illness and a lot of past trauma. There is a lot more going on than meets the eye, and I think I avoid her because I know that I won't be able to meet her performance demands. She'll bring out the checklists and spreadsheets and I in fact feel like I'm in a manager or HR office, which she used to be.
I'll be doing an intake with someone else this week. It's kind of a big deal to change, but I think it might be necessary.

My sister-in-law's husband unfortunately lost multiple jobs causing financial problems. People would suggest fairly gentle that she look for a job herself, and discussed her skills including computer. training They'd talk, suggest, compliment, outline financial scenarios but little got done in 15 years as she did not work despite their situation and her own capabilities. Depression and self-image challenges surely played a role .
My wife as many know has had some challenges recently, and we need to pick out furniture for our new house. (we're now in it almost 6 months). Her sister had made some suggestions and a couple of days ago lit into my wife, YOU NEED TO START GETTING THINGS DONE, DON'T KNOW WHAT ON EARTH IN GOING ON, BUT YOU'RE CAUSING YOURSELF AND FAMILY MEMBERS A LOT OF AGGRAVATION.
There was some truth and many think that a nicely furnished house would facilitate visits and make her feel better. But the recipient likes gentle suggestions, deference, respect, patience but on the other side, it's simply this will help your life, so let's get it done.
Does anyone use 2 therapists. Maybe I'd have nice new supportive therapist each week, and kick your butt tough lady once a month to try to get things done.

I think
looking for a change makes a lot of sense. I assume that you've talked
to her about the depression and trauma?
I have found that counselors (especially newer ones) might want to fix thing through the use of work sheets rather than listen to what you are
really saying. Good for you for looking for someone new.
I hope that the new counselor is skilled in dealing with depression. Good luck
