Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Typical first sessions go like this:
I don't know where to start.
I'm not sure what you need to know.
I don't know what I can tell you in a 1 hour session.
Of course you don't know these things ... first time. She has heard 'em before, ... so whatever it may be, don't worry about it. She has heard 'em all. All these statements are fine ... the ice is broken, and she will manage. Not a problem.
But coupled with this, make sure that you are a good match with your therapist. They may have worked wonders for your friend, but if the chemistry is not there, you will not get the same results.
You can write things down. It can be notes to yourself of things you need to bring up. Or it can be a detailed written introduction to your issues that you simply hand to the therapist.
As far as expectations, get them out early. But be flexible. Therapists are not there to fix us, they are there to help us fix ourselves. They can suggest methods, they can help us confront our issues, but in the end we fix ourselves.
