Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
This is not some crazy ranting, they really do seem set on the desctruction of my wife and ourself.
Even if you think something is proven and settled in your favor they keep coming at you again and again. Last week was a seizure order for 2/3 of my wife's take-home pay on something that was already settled. They removed it but it's clear that it can happen again. Of course then we wouldn't have been able to pay any of our other bills.
That's not the worst of it. A valid $3200 deduction was rejected because it was late (for a good reason) and is becoming $30,000 in penalties and interest. No other organization in business today charges penalties and interest like they do.
We've been in our house 24 years and now I wonder if we'll lose it to them.

The student loan people will work with you on repayment of loans. Shame of it is, my depression has screwed my head up so bad I don't remember a thing I learned in school And they say you can't have your education taken from you.
I would get a lawyer that I trusted for the IRS. Maybe not the tv wonders but one in your town with a good reputation.

I hate that you will have to pay an attorney. But in this case, that might be the only way to get some relief here. You're talking about a lot of money the IRS is checking into, especially with your home.
In the meantime, just collect all of your paperwork from the year in question, get an attorney and wait. That's all you can do. This will take time. Try to keep your mind off of this. Keep working. Keep enjoying other areas of your life.

My electrician doesn't pay tax. He likes cash-in-hand, meaning he gets to keep all the money we give him. So I refused to give him cash. I get paid peanuts, and have to pay tax. So does my husband. Yet this tosser works cash-in-hand! Makes me spit when people like you are trying their hardest, and being honest, but these robots won't give you a chance.

Unfortunately, I was right. It did not make me happy, but I was right.
They did something like this to me when I was first married. (Business thing). My student loan was already slipping and I wasn't making any real money and BAM, they determined (about the same amount, $3500 over 6 months), and there wasn't a damn thing I could do about it. Now that you bring it up, my wife left that next year. Hmmmmm...... destructive bastards!
