Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
for me, it's a product of rumination a lot of the time. Something is bugging me about someone and pretty soon I am telling them what I think out loud when no one else is around but me.
Honestly: Yes, much more when I'm down.
Idk about when I was younger, but since I became aware....I have been very careful, and mostly successful at hiding it from others.
I Have been caught more than once, and always managed to not have a big scene over it.
I have no idea WHO I am talking to....but I'm sure if I never had...I would have gone stark raving loony by now. It's something I've always done, and have to do.
P.S. I never do it in public.
I also relive conversations of the past, think and talk out loud of the things I could have said, or would have said had I known then what I know now. I think it's pretty normal, but then, I have to add that it's pretty normal for ME and I am most certainly and guaranteed NOT normal in any sense of the word, with the possible exception of only having 5 fingers and toes, which, I hear, is normal?
My brain is simply too confusing to keep it all in there.
As to other characters. I used to make up stories in which I was one of the main characters--mostly to lull myself to sleep. In that case I would talk to the other characters.
Other than that I just talk to inanimate objects, my dog, and yeah, have conversations with me.
I do think being unaware of having these conversations out loud is a problem though. Seek more control in that area.
talk to myself.
i STRONGLY feel it is not only normal, i feel it is also HEALTHY.
OBVIOUSLY you do not go out in a busy public area and start
thinking out loud and talking to yourself - unless YOU WANT TO
LOOK LIKE A FREAK.
but here in my apartment, ill mumble things out loud everyday.
if there is a SUPER IMPORTANT ISSUE going on in my head
i will voice it out - talk the thoughts out loud.
everything is clearer then.
the grip i have on the context is much stronger.
Glad Im not the only one....idk anyone else IRL who talks to themselves....or at least no one who has ever admitted it.
Seems normal to me.
I only ask because I have DID, and so I am familiar with it.
Do you see a psychologist that you could discuss this "talking to yourself" with?
I have even asked my son and hubby if I was talking out loud...
I will play out situations that happened to try and get them to turn out another way...yes to # 13...I do have DID....I have littles that will come out and talk or act out!!!
