Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
What I want to address in this post is hopefully somewhat relatable to at least some of you. So my depression often takes the form of negative thought cycles and very often revolves around my achievements. So I can be very sensitive if someone/anyone assumes I am not doing enough for you name it really. I get drawn into another negative thought cycle and my next three days are ruined. When I feel under pressure the thoughts in my head get very loud. The point I am taking this to is that too many people over the years (especially my family and people I considered friends) have willingly ignored my conditions because they think it's funny when I am having mild panic attacks and when they have the "power" to ruin my mood. I stuck around. Lots of regrets there but apart from my awful family I've cut ties. What I want to say is that there is a special kind of pain that comes when you have mental issues that are already stigmatized and then you get taken advantage of and bullied because of it. I don't know. I still feel shame for letting it happen. In the end it isn't something I did. But it made me feel so worthless.
