Today.. the sun is finally shining. At the close at a long, painfully cold winter.. the sun is finally shining again. And I am in the best mood I've been in in months!
I woke up this morning without tears. First time in months that I have woken up not crying. I thought it was odd, but appreciated it and didn't think more on it.
Then I got dressed and headed out to the coffee shop to grab my morning caffeine and bagel... this is when I noticed that I had bundled up far too well, as I was sweating like a pig. I saw the sun shining, with no clouds in the sky. It made me smile.
I went home and drank my coffee and ate my bagel as I got back to writing the massive 25-page paper I'm working on due at the end of this month. This paper has been stressing me out like crazy over the past couple months, but this morning it was different. I typed and typed and typed, completing 3 pages in only a couple of hours. It wasn't stressful like it has been every other time I have sat down to work on it. In fact, I found myself enjoying the work again. It has been a long time since school work has been pleasurable for me. I missed that desperately.
Then I headed off to work. Usually the hour and a half commute which involved 2 buses and a train ride annoys me. Today it didn't even phase me. I read my book, and almost missed one of my stops because I was so engrossed in it. (The Shock Doctrine by Naomi Klein - anyone who is into politic and social issues ought to read it, FYI)
I got to work and I was in a great mood. My mood got better and better throughout the day, and by the time the kids all showed up (I work at an after school program) I was practically jumping off the walls I was in such a ridiculously good mood!
We had so much fun this afternoon at work. The kids were really hyper today (probably for the same reason I was in such a good mood - the sun) and normally I would have found it pretty frustrating trying to keep them calm and at an indoors noise-level. Today, though, it was impossible to bring me down.
I don't really know why I am telling you all this. I just wanted someone, anyone to know how relieved I am to have had a good day. A good day that wasn't precipitated by any event. Simple sunshine was enough to bring me from the brink of insanity, where I have been for months, back to happiness. Nothing particularly good happened today, and that is what makes me feel so relieved. I am happy for no reason. Man.. it's been a while!
