Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I'm new to the site. I'm a 23-year-old woman that struggles badly with Major Depressive Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, and PTSD. (And alcoholism, drug addiction, bulimia and self-harm.)
Are there any good ways to cope with worsening depression, other than medication and therapy? I don't want to get into an exhaustive history, but I refuse to do either of those things. (My Mom had Munchaussen Syndrome, so it's a sore spot.)
I've been in-and-out of jails, rehabs and institutions most of my life, so doing things like CBT, going for a walk, AA/NA are all just a joke for me. Honestly. It probably stems from the fact I'm "hardened," but that's the reality of it.
Are there any members here who deal with an array of problems like this? I can handle most of the things that come my way, but the depression is one of the things I can't handle. It's almost killed me a bunch of times.

Can you identify these rom-coms from just a screenshot from the middle of the films? This is a multiple choice quiz so even if you're not entirely sure you can always take a guess and at least have a 25% chance of getting it right anyway, so why not have a go?! https://www.buzzfeed.com/alysaurus688/rom-com-screenshot-trivia-quiz

Laughed a little too hard at that one.
Happy I, made you laugh currentstruggle.
It is my standard when someone accuses me of being addicted to cigarettes. I have smoked for 61 years and have no health problems.
There is no doubt cigarette smoking is harmful to some people, but so is peanut butter.
I am convinced it supports my immune system.
Not wanting to steal your thread.

Either way, you are right. Your mother is a very sick individual and I can understand you leaving her out of your life.
I've really thought about it. But as you can imagine, even the idea of meds/therapy scare the hell out of me.
I'm considering seeking a therapist that specializes in trauma. Clearly a generalized, family-based therapist just won't cut it.
