Does stressful situations contribute to depression?

I am fighting with CitiMortgage to avoid foreclosure and loosing my house but I've been unemployed since May 2, 2013 and I have run out of unemployment benefits and it doesn't look like Congress is going to pass an extension on those benefits. My current income is zero and it is a miracle that I have been able to continue staying here and paying just the normal utilities even though I'm not making a mortgage payment.

Most of the time it doesn't seem like the mortgage company is listening. I understand they want their money but they offered me a modification of my loan that extends the loan by 10 years and lowers the % of my loan by only 2% and only lowers my payment by 20.00. How could they think this could help in a situation where my income is zero?

I need to be doing school work tonight because I cannot afford to get behind and all I want to do is lay down and go to sleep. I'm not even sure that if I tried I would be able to sleep.

I understand how you feel, I barely get by and when I get a lay off I wonder if I'm gonna end up living in my car. The stress is unbelievable. Have you had no job prospects in the last year? Can't keep living on zero income, with or without a mortgage payment. I wish the best for you and hope things improve soon. Hugs

I suppose it could cause depression but I would think it would cause more on the lines of frustration, anger, and a bit of anxiety. Going to sleep will not help your situation, it will only prolong it. Don't give up. Fight sweety, just fight. Hugs GB

Yes, I understand how that could make you stressed and upset. I was in your same situation myself a while back, and yes I was really stressed out. You can do whatever you can do, apply for jobs and all of that, and then when you are done, there is not much else to do. I understand wanting to go to sleep, it makes sense. But of course sleeping a lot doesn't help either.

    Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ.  Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...
