Hi,

I'm just wondering if any of you have used St John's Wort for treating depression and if so how did it work for you? Did you find it effective? I'm thinking of going that route as opposed to the prescription meds and my psychiatrist actually suggested it today because she knows I prefer the natural alternative if possible. In the meantime I did restart my Zoloft but I am wanting more information from people who actaully have experience with St John's Wort.

I've never used it but just a warning if you take the contraceptive pill, SJW stops it working

Hi,

I started taking it in January. Because it can take up to 8 weeks before it starts working I started taking 2 a day after 2 weeks. For 6 or 7 weeks I felt as I was looking down on my own life. I miss that feeling... I started to take 1 tablet one day and 2 tablets the other day. Didn't do that for long but went back to 2 a day. Now I am back to 2p/d - 1p/d. I think it does work but only if you have a mild depression. I think I should get prescription meds but I can't because of the companys Alcohol & Drugs policy. I would give it a go but keep in mind that it can take up to 8 weeks before it starts working and you can't just stop using it. Also, you can feel worse for a few days when you start using it.

mail arahn as he is really clued up on herbal meds and he really helped me out with some suggestions before. I'm sure if he's online he wouldnt mind you asking what he knew as this is a support site and we're all here for each other xx

I have used it for SAD. It helps alleviate the blues. Do not stop taking your meds until you see your doctor. Also, Zoloft and SJW may not mix.

I have tried it, and found after 2 hours of taking it i couldnt talk properly. i just didnt make any sense. I am very sensitive to anything like this including meds. but it could work for you.

I've found it helps mildly but i didn't know it stopped the pill from working... not that that matters coz i feel sooooo rough a shag is the last thing on my mind!!!
Some one also suggested Star flower Oil... same kinda thing only stronger??? Hope this helps and if you do use the star flower let me know how you get on!!
