I wondered if anyone here has been declared disabled because of their depression? I have not even tried to get a job for YEARS, but I have had depression issues that are up and down and honestly are escalating.

I also have migraine headaches on top of the depression, so I'm pretty much useless many days a month.

I would really appreciate any advice for talking to my doctor about this as well as any pointers for getting approved for SSDI.

Most of my friends on disability have schitzoaffective, diabetes or bipolar, but I am certain that people with clinical depression can get ssdi.

I've heard that you need a good attorney and that it might take several times.

Uhm..and also, most of my friends enjoy working while on disability--you can work 20 hours a week.

IF you don't want to work then your quality of life can improve because you get to do the things that you never had time to do.

So, SSDI is a sweet deal either way you go.

I collected 100% SSDI disability for depression and PTSD until I reached retirement age and it converted from disability to 'Retirement'.

It took me 5 years, a lawyer, one denial, and 1 appeal, and finally a judgement before I 'won' and was paid a benefit every month .. but the back pay for 5 years resulted in a pretty big first check.

Good luck to you. I haven't worked in over 10 years so I didn't have enough quarters for ssdi. I applied for ssi but got turned down and got a lawyer and still got turned down but I keep appealing.
