Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
A preview button. People make posts about topics and issues in moments of anger, etc. that on hindsight they would not have done. A preview button would give us a moment to think if we really want to make the post.
Signatures. We have photos for our nicknames, why not allows us to signatures for quotes and adages.
Do the smileys work in regular posts? I know they work in chat.

Combine this idea with the option to edit AFTER posting if new information has come up: It would be best to show the original post up top and immediately below, the edited portion, perhaps like this:
(image/user name) 3:00pm post:
"Hey everyone, (font color = grey) I can't believe how sunny it is today." (/grey) I thought it was supposed to rain!"
(horizontal line to break it up)

...I know it's really lame, I couldn't really think of a very good example post, but I think it gets to the point??
That way it would indicate that something has changed, and show specifically what's different. The user could highlight the section they want to change, it would change font colors, then below in the post's edited section, you'd be able to get the newest information first.
quotes - yes.
adages = anything else - yes.
