Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I know I’ve posted here a lot lately but I just need support. I’m so down and I’m in so much pain. It all feels so pointless and I hate myself. I am nothing. I’m alone. I have my family which I know is more than what some people have, but I’d like to have even just one friend. I have an assignment due for class tomorrow and I don’t know how I’m gonna find the motivation to complete it. I had to drop out of college last year because of my issues and now I’m back and maybe I wasn’t ready. Maybe I’m just a failure. I’m not in crisis or anything. But I just want some support. I do see my therapist tomorrow, which is such a relief. But I’m struggling in the moment.

Maybe some of it relates to your statements that you 'hate yourself' and that you don't have 'a single friend?' I guess I'm stating the obvious here, but you have areas of self-esteem and self-worth that need addressing. If you believe that you have no value then you then assume that nobody else sees value in you, so why would they want to be your friend?
Self-worth is a really difficult thing for us to nail down if we listen to that constant negative self-talk that gets played in our head, over and over. It takes practice to even recognize that we're doing it, and more practice to actually challenge the truth of it (or lack of truth). Then we also have to learn to replace those negatives with positives and it's a constant battle at first. You've probably had years of telling yourself that you're not good enough, so it's going to take some time to break those lies that you listen to.
Lastly, self-worth comes not from what you do or what you achieve. It's defined by your value system - your values define who you are and so, inherently, you have worth. It's only going to be when you love yourself that you'll be able to accept that others can love you too. Hope that makes sense! TR
