Normally how it has worked for me I see my pdoc every 4 to 8 weeks depending on how things are going and that time gets less and less as the meds change less. I see my thearpist every 2 weeks, any decent thearpist will get you talking so don't worry about that. You should seek help and maybe you will find what you need.

I actually see a social worker not a psychologist or anything because I'm honestly afraid to see one and I don't really like the one they have where I go, but I could change to a psychologist at anytime I pleased. Yes, talking is a big part of it. If you don't want to talk about something you don't have to talk. Usually my SW will start the talking off then go from there. She will ask how I've been and how things are going in my life and if I have any problems. Blah, blah. At sometime though you got to open yourself up, as hard as it is. Beleive me, it took me a long time to talk to her about stuff I would much rather keep to myself. Beleive it or not it helps to get stuff off your chest that you have been holding back. I don't beleive you would be dismissed as not depressed. The person will probably just tell you some things to help improve your mood.

I have been taking med's on and off for 22 yrs. There are some that will make you gain weight. I will began seeing a counselor soon. This will be the first time for me. I don't even know what to expect. Maybe they can help me get to the bottom of this and explain why it keeps happening. I do thing you should open up because if you don't you will be defeating the purpose of going. Sometimes we carry a lot around on our shoulders that we shouldn't. Just try to be strong so that you can become stronger. I know that's easier said than done, but we must try.

I was hoping for a little bit of specifics about which ones do and don't cause weight gain. :S

Zoloft made me gain over 20 pounds. Prozac made me gain, but celexa (citalopram) my weight stayed pretty much the same. The reason I stopped the other two was because of the weigh gain.

It really depends on the individual.
Wellbutrin is not supposed to cause weight gain, but I've gained about 10 pounds on it. Until you try something, you just won't know for sure.

seroquil is one of the worst for weight gain .you can go to web md. website there is a lot of info about any or all types of drugs. more info there than the psy doc will tell you.as of the visits to psy she adjust the time between each visit according to how i am doing.1 thing you must do is be 100% honest to your doc. so they can help you.better.holding things back or not telling the doc or therapist is the worst thing you can do. i have found some things uncomfortable and embarising to talk about with them so just tell them this they really do care about you or they would not be in this proffesion.if you keep feeling bad and etc talking to them see a different doc or therapist sometimes it just not a good match. try not to take it personally . but i happenes rarely but it has to be a good fit. for both of you. iv been through all this so i hope this info helps you good luck

The best thing to do is talk to a profesional and make sure that no matter what stay open and honest, got to a place that cares about its patients. I been going to thearapy and that helps more than thwe meds. In my opinion if you're on meds you shuld definately undergo therapy as well, because they've studied for years and caan help. A lot of them like helping people too. And its confidential, bcuz its against the law for them to tell anyone ur buisness. Its a beautiful thing if u stay positive and believe in youreself don't give up hope. Depending on you're eating disorder depends on the meds they give u. Hope you find peace (hugs)

i see my shrink once a week or once every two weeks. I see my therapist three times a week. I do not use meds.

I know I need to be honest with whoever I'm talking to especially if they are prescribing me medication. I guess my worry is that if I say too much (as far as suicidal thoughts or self injury) will they have me hospitalized? It's not that I make active attempt at taking my life, it's just that the ideas haunt my idle thoughts on a daily basis.
