It wasn't until college I learned to write an essay. First semester, I got stuck with someone who had no idea what to do with me. Fortunately, on my retake, my professor adjusted the assignment to allow me to write on subjects I knew about in my essays. Where some people spent weeks on a 4-10 page essay researching and drafting, I could do it in the process of writing and in only a few days, if not hours. How it's just facts, no imagination. I just knew how to research the books and articles more effectively for some reason than most people. However, considering I no longer write essays and haven't in over a decade, except for an acquaintance who desparately needed an "A" in her class, my skills have likely atrophied. Another useless skill.
