Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I do wish I had have sat down with them and told them properly.
She won't be disappointed I'm sure. It's not like you've done anything to deserve this. If she was disappointed it would be because she doesn't understand. So maybe when you tell her print out some information on depression for her to read.

mums worry and fret yes but takes more than depression to disappoint us...... well certainly would for me. only disappointment id feel is that they didnt tell me sooner
"Mom, I am dealing with a problem. I have done some research and I believe I have major depression. It is complicated with a possible eating disorder (food addiction). I think it could be serious and I need to get evaluated, diagnosed, and on a treatment plan."
Or something like that. Often parents jump to the conclusion their dear child is 'just depressed' (normally) and will or should 'snap out of it'. That is what you want to avoide if possible.
