Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

But it makes the point that you need to know the reality of 'it all'. The joy is immeasruable I would think (I have no children .. sadly).
The work is tremendous. The responsibility is tremendous ... their health, safety, opportunities, education, financial security ... just to name a few. And it lasts (legally) 18 years in most states.
I don't know where you can go to get one simple answer .. but talking to your doctor(s) would be a VERY good idea.
I do not know your marital status .. but in my opinion, a baby needs a good Father as much as it needs a good Mother.
"dysthymia and borderline personality" are not enough to say no .. in my opinion ... but there is more to the whole picture than your mental health ... it COULD be a factor ... I would not know. At least discuss that part with your doctors.
