Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I have been on this site before and it has helped to a point. Not having my own computer makes it difficult to make daily contacts, so I don't have any established friendships. Still it is hard to do while dealing with your own difficulties, so I am ok with that. This last month has been horrible for me. Last month on the 13th, I made an attempt to commit suicide. Took a nonlethal dose of Oxycodone, then realized what I had done, and called my neighbor, who then called the ambulance. Spent 6 days in the psychiatric care unit here. I learned a lot there, mainly that it really does hit all ages and social statuses. Now I am out, trying to reestablish a trusting relationship with my daughter, and finding a new therapist and support group. I have started on the paperwork for SSDI/SSI, but having seeing my dad go through numerous denials with a bad heart, I am prepared to go through crap on that front. Just dealing with a lot of things right now, and I don't want to burden my kids. So will be trying to get on at least once a week to see what I can learn from others.

Still find myself not wanting to be around....I'm trying to write out all that has happened and the effect depression has had on me and on others. I think one of the worse effects of depression is that it is so self-centered. I am on a waiting list for counselling (and they know I was in the psych unit, they are just trying to find someone who can be more consistent for me, as the last counselor had her own family issues). I still have landlord issues, as I need to ask for permission to keep my dog before getting her shots and license. I have a prescription for an emotional support dog, but these people are not fair...I got busted for bringing the dog in while others have their boyfriends living there or constantly party. Then my oldest daughter's best friend passed away suddenly and I went to her service. Just a lot to deal with right now.

I'm glad you were able to get help when you overdosed on your medication. I've been down that path and have spent time in psychiatric care as well. I'm surprised they didn't place you in an outpatient program while they were getting your therapist situatoin set up. Anyway, things will get better...you just have a lot on your plate at the moment. Hopefully things will lighten up for you soon. If you ever need to talk, please PM me. Talking with someone always seems to help a situation out some.

They have support groups and a person that I meet with on a regular basis. I'm supposed to check in with my doctor this Thursday. The meds are making me feel horrible and I need them adjusted. I also need to do blood work to make sure that my liver isn't damaged. It really sucks that I have to risk damaging my body to fix my brain! I have thought about calling the number to be readmitted, but that would make the holidays suck for everyone...including me. I just need to keep asking for help, I guess.
