Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
It's ok to mentally give up for a little bit, stop searching for things to live for and let them reveal themselves to you. But don't step in front of a bus just yet, ok? Hang in there.
Depression is a liar. It distorts everything and tells you all kinds of stuff that isn't true. When depression lifts, everything looks different, even though nothing has changed. That's how you know that depression has been lying to you. You cannot make a sane decision about life or your own value while you're in the grip of depression. You have to just know that you're being lied to and hang on by your fingernails until you're free. Kind of like in The Matrix, only instead of that normal-looking world you find yourself in hell, in the form of some vile creature. Or the world is normal, but you are a monster. It's all an illusion.
Depression is one of the most treatable illnesses, so if you can't take it anymore you can try meds. Finding the right ones can be very easy or it can be very hard. Different meds or combinations of meds work for different people, and they take weeks to get to a therapeutic level in your bloodstream. But one you're through that, you can live without carrying a ton of misery on your shoulders, so it's worth it.
Therapy is also crucial. It helps you learn to deconstruct the lies about yourself that you've come to believe and any self-defeating behaviors you've adopted to prove the lies. Ultimately, it can help you to touch and release the original sources of your pain, old wounds that remain unhealed, poisoning your system. But you have to be a little stable before you open up anything too heavy.
Also their are natural herbs that can help change your perspective on things, 1 example is St. John's Wort. I have just started taking this.
I also found out that me being anemic increases the severity of my depression, which I never even connected to my depression. I am now taking an iron supplement.
Just sharing a little about me, hoping that this information might help you or someone else.
Cracked and Stumbling, yet still moving forward. Drew
