Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
The looks as I walk into a store, the stares as I stroll down the street; they burn me. A little more each and every time. Half the time I can't decide if it's due to the color of my skin, the way I carry myself that obviously shows my sexuality, the way I wear my hair, the way I talk to myself, the fact that I never smile anymore, the heart that I carry lazily and crazily on the outside of my body, the fact that I'm sickly; or a melting pot containing all of the above. I believe, because of the area I live in, it's racism. I'm a minority, although I am regardless of where I live, everyone lumps me in the "white boy" category. The mess of dirty looks and thousands of eyes staring through me every time I go out, is enabling my depression, anxiety and schizophrenia. Sorry for ranting, but damn. Can't we all just get over ourselves and get along? Fuck.
You know, it really bothers me to think that people would judge you based on your looks, where you live, and the fact that you have a child.
It is their loss if they choose to turn away. Hugs xx
I do. I write a lot of poetry and short stories. Only when I don't try, is when it comes out to be worth anything. I mostly stay quiet, and write for myself or my journal. I don't pop around the boards very much, however; sometimes I pop out of nowhere and leave my mark. Kind of the way a dog marks a fire hydrant and then goes about his merry way. ;)
Isn't it crazy? It's so weird. I'm half white and half Israeli, which most people assume is just "white" anyway. It's so weird to walk into a place and be stared down like you deserve to die. It's been like that since I've lived here. When I lived in New Jersey, I never had that problem.
No worries, and thanks for your condolences. I miss him greatly, but he'll forever be in my heart.
