I didn't know where to post this thread but since I've been diagnosed and hospitalised in the past by a psychiatrist I thought I'd post this here. I've been on this forum off and on in the past but I believe I may just be a pathological liar. I think I have been all my life and that the build up was just too much for my brain to handle and that's why I tried to hang myself and ended up in hospital. I'm now discharged, back to working and doing almost all things I did in the past but still every day and CONSTANTLY I have ruminating thoughts and ideas that just don't ever go away. I've been working with a psychologist and I've been trying to put his advice to good practice but deep down I just try and get by each day. I think I've just messed with my own mind so much now that I truly don't even know my own truthful thoughts and basically go about each day on auto pilot. I still think of suicide but know I won't go through with it, I still think about my wife being better off without me which I know is true because she really is a fantastic person and deserves to be loved and treated well. I know I and I alone are in charge of my own fate and basically I need to take responsibility for my own life but I fear I may just keep going along with the flow of bullshitting myself and others until the day I die. Truth is I actually have a fantastic life if I could just live it and stop with the pointless lying and bullshitting to myself and others but know I can't.

A lot of times compulsive lying tended to be a defence mechanise for some to just survive in there early family life. You are not the first to lie as a patient by any means either. Nor does it mean you will be a liar all your life. Getting the meds right will help. Therapy will also help. Would also think that putting that creative mind to work on some creative projects would help a great deal too. Such as writing.fantastic fantasy stories.

I'm still in therapy Edison but I've been discharged by the crisis team and soon to be discharged by the psychologist too. Truth is I think I've told so many lies that I genuinely don't know when I'm telling the truth or lying. The psychologist believes that I've always had the tendency to not deal with things in the past and that little worries have grown and grown to the point that I've over anylized to a massive degree and it's just I'm so aware of my own thoughts now I'm relating to them when he is trying to get me to concentrate "in the moment". I'm practising mindfulness but to be honest I fell away from it for a while. I don't like the person I have become and I know I and I alone can be the only one who changes this.

I lied to people and myself for years pretending that I was ok but I really really wasn't. Then I got hospitalized and eventually things got better because I was honest with myself and my family and friends.. You can do anything you set your mind to, it took me a long time to understand this . Maybe you could ask your psychologist that you aren't ready to get kicked out yet? Good luck and keep posting.
