I had been seriously depressed for 10 years. I remember the exact moment when I was no longer depressed and that the prozac was working. I was watching The Abyss. I cried and thanked God. Prozac stopped working after about 7 years. But I will always doff my hat to it.

I have had a good experience so far. I have been on it for almost 7 mo started at 10mg and am now on 40mg. It helps a lot. I was put on it after my suicide attack, before that I was on Cilexa, and it did not help. I hope the Prozac keeps helping me. I have had no side effects at all.

I thought Prozac was horrible to be honest. I got paraniod. I was sure my daughter was going to die and I had to protect her at all costs. I checked my door 20 times a night to be sure it was locked. Sometimes I ended up unlocking it by mistake, and when I found it unlocked I was sure there was someone in my house. I had the urge to cut off all my hair, and was afraid to use the stove. When I started sleeping with a knife under my pillow I knew it was time to give up the prozac and visit my doctor!

Prozac alone did not help me at all and took away my sex drive, but then they added Wellbutrin with it and it was awesome for about 3 or 4 years. The it kida stopped working and they changed it around a bit. I am now on Paxil and Wellbutrin. There were a few different ones I tried to but I dot remember the combinations anymore!!

Prozac is the only thing that worked for me and I have tried several. It decreased my appetite and I lost weight. It took about 3-4 weekes before I noticed a difference but boy it was a big difference. My moods were so much better and things that used to bother me didn't matter anymore. The only reason I don't take it anymore is I have no insurance and it is expensive. Hopefully it will help you like it did me.

Personally, for me, I think it's poison. I felt awful, worse than before I started taking it. I had suicidal ideations, the worst experience in my life. I guess I can't take any of the SSRI's because I had a bad reaction with Celexa too. But with Celexa I felt ok, but my jaw hurt so much from clenching it with severe headaches and all the muscles in my neck and shoulders were hurting from all the jaw clenching.

i have been on prozac for 3.5 weeks, i have developed a rash on my chest and legs. Has this happen to anyone else?

i had a good experience on prozac. it gave me more energy and helped with my ocd thinking. it took about 2 weeks to kick in so you have to give it time and it stays in your system longer than some of the other antideprssants.

I have just began to get the benefits from prozac, my dose was upped and after nearly four weeks on the increased dose I am beginnning to feel human again. I feel like I want to be alive- I actually want to live a normal everyday existance. My experiences with the drug weren't flash at the start- infact at first it didn't feel like it was working at all and I found my depression worsened, I almost think I was becomming depressed because the meds weren't working.
But I am actually beginnning to feel good again, I don't care if I take this the rest of my life- if it means I can enjoy the things 'normal people' do, then I don't care :)

i've been on prozac for 3 days, and i developed a rash on my hands, arms, legs , chest and back. i'm also having weird back aches and blurry vision. just wondering if anyone else had this too.

Doug, I could be the poster child for prozac. I started taking it back in the 80's when it first came out strong and have only been off of it once, never again.

I love it, and no weight gain or any other side effects like some of the other ones. Or, I would not know, have so many other problems, side effects be damned. Serious physical problems. But I do know, none are caused by prozac. I forgot how well it worked until I was forced to do without for a year....Am back on it now, it has only been about 2 months, has an awful dip in serotonin to contend with though. So, I am being patient.

The main thing about Prozac, other's notice a difference before you do.

i first took prozac over 20 years ago...it took a couple of weeks to feel better, but it was like an aha! moment. my dose gradually went up over the years and eventually it stopped working and i tried some other drugs...nothing really worked until effexor xr, and i had some really nasty side effects w/that at high dosages. back on prozac w/effexor, but weaning off the prozac now. i never had side effects from prozac other than dry mouth.

PROZAC HAS BEEN A LIFE SAVER FOR ME- I'M ON 80mg. A DAY.WILL GIVE YOU DRY MOUTH-AND WEIGHT GAIN . BUT WITH LIKE ANY MED -EVERY HUMAN BODY REACTS DIFFERENTLY TO MEDS.

Is this an old post or just the date wrong on it?

My doctor says that prozac is a great band aid. But it will peel off with time. I took it after my sister died and it got me through. I felt ok for 8 months and then I started to feel suicidal ect. I ended up trying to commit suicide while on it. May have been less the med and more the grief and booze.
