Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I finally went to the dr. and got on some anti depressents and also something like valium to help until the meds kicked in.. At first I felt like I couldnt hold my son or I would drop him and then after a while, things got a lot better.. Talk to your dr. Hormones can be off kilter still. Talk to a dr. You are not using it as an excuse..
You and your child deserve you to feel better.. And you will if you seek the help you need.
My son had to go into the hospital a few weeks after birth for a minor surgery. I stayed in the hospital with him for four days.. I could not quit crying or feeling helpless and that he was going to die even though everyone told me it was not critical.. At one point I heard a nurse telling someone that a young child had swallowed a battery and that the dr. was doing emergency surgery as the acid had ate the babies aspohagas..(sp)..
I immediately called everyone and told them to make sure all their batteries were picked up and made sure there were none at my house.. I felt like my son was going to die, no matter how much I did to protect him.. I cried over everything.. I couldnt pull myself together..
The meds are the only thing that finally got me straightened out.. Get the help you need hon and dont feel guilty.. Nasty hormones
ugh.
im going to try to see a clinic doctor when i can. maybe its wh y i hurt so much too physically, i cant even lay down for very long cause i hurt so bad if im not moving. im not on any other drugs, but i feel like i should be. my step mom made a comment when i expressed i was having trouble to her months ago, she said its been 3 months, and made it seem like it was my fault and i was just lazy and unorganized. no matter how hard i try, i cant remember things. stupid little things.
ugh.
Please look into this! You, your baby, and this time are too special to risk.
Treatment for postpartum depression is fairly well-established, so I don't think you need to worry too much about being treated as a guinea pig.
If you don't have a doctor of your own to talk this over with, talk to your baby's pediatrician. They are trained to watch for signs of postpartum depression, and can make a referral for you.
Best wishes for you and your little one.
