Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hi I'm new here but I'm not new to this pain. I have panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, but worst of all depression. My parents don't understand and my friends don't either. I go to therapy I'm on medication I do all that I'm supposed to but I still feel horrible. I started cutting and I feel guilty but the relief it gives me is enough to encourage me to do it again. I hate this life. I've been fighting this since I was little and it's not getting any easier. I swear if my heart beats any faster it will come to a stop. Sending love to anyone who needs it ... I sure as hell do.

I got an email from Kohl's that I had a 40% off coupon for today and tomorrow only. It took me about an hour but I placed an order and got some great deals. I have been wanting a new dress. I like dressing up sometimes. My birthday is coming up and I have dinner plans at a nice restaurant. But, honestly, I'm a little out of control again. I went through this in the fall. I bought...

Has anyone else noticed that clearly speaking and doing things intentionally is liberating because it helps combat the feeling of depression and a sense of hopelessness? Let me share a little more: in my experience, when those who have tried to project a hidden agenda that is obviously not aligned with integrity and well-being, it's best to be firm and speak clearly from self-awareness and...

Sending hugs and support!!
I often think being older...I have the benefit of past experiences...having friends that are also older and wiser...who I can share and learn from...especially stories about heart break, anxiety, depression, health issues.
What comforts me...is knowing that it's a very common issue - mental health. Knowing that I'm not alone is very comforting as well.
If I thought back to when I was 21 - and had to deal with the same issues I have now...I would be completely lost.
So bravo to you for getting treatment and help. Cutting is your go to coping mechanism, perhaps research only about other healthier ways to cope or talk to your therapist about this. That would include...exercising, creative outlets, etc.
When I went to therapy...I went in with a list of things that are currently bothering me that week, and things I wanted to discuss. Maybe write down some things, and bring it to your next appt.
Also don't stay too focused on your mental health issues. Try to find things that can distract you for an hour, or 2, or even for 10 minutes. Our brain likes as break as well. Over focusing on our problems seem to amplify them.
My favorite mantra is "I'm ok, right now I'm doing ok."
Welcome and sending you light and love on improving your mental wellness. Happy Friday. You're not alone...at all! :)
Lavender has some great advice. Depression and anxiety is so hard and you are so brave to share your cutting secret with us. I just want to help you and give you a little bit of a different prospective. As a mom, I hurt when my child hurts. I wish they would just open up to me and let me into the going ons in their head. I may not know how to fix it, but I want to help them through it. Maybe talking about it with someone you trust, working through it. Finding the trigger and seeing what distractions, besides cutting, would work move you away from it. Best of luck, I'll be thinking about you.
