Please help. I'm so depressed.

Hey guys,


I'm a 25 year old male, I'm a Biotechnology student,


Also I'm gay, but that doesn't bother me too much, I accepted it years ago. although only a few friends know and my family doesn't. But it's okay to me in this phase of my life.


My real problem is that I'm balding, I've been losing my hair for a few years now and this is a REAL nightmare for me. I feel I'm so ugly.


Because I still have hair, I'm really obsessive to it, I'm wasting every day around 2-3 hours total, maybe even more to just arrange my hair so people won't see that I'm going bald. Actually I think I'm good at hiding my balding, but I hate it, I can't be focused in anything but that. I can't study this way. I feel I'll have to quit my studying soon because every time in class I'll go to toilet to check that my hair is fine. I feel like I'm going crazy, and sometimes also suicidal thoughts pop in my head. You may say I'm over reacting but this is a real issue for me.


I've never told my parents that I'm losing my hair and what I feel about it, I'm extremely embarrassed. I've heard of a reputed doctor who performs good hair transplantations abroad, but it is way too much expensive for me and I won't be able to afford that. I've been thinking about taking a loan from my bank but I don't know if they'll approve the loan, or even if they do, if this is a good idea.


I know that if I'll tell my parents they might give me the money for that, but I am just too embarrassed to tell them.


I don't know what to do, this is making me crazy and I'm really losing my mind. Please help me...

Parents are the to help when we need them. They love you and I'm sure if getting this transplant is the important to you , they will be more than willing to help.

If this is causing you to have suicidal thoughts, it is time to talk to your parents. They love you and they certainly don't want anything bad to happen to you. Once you let them know how important this is to you I am sure they will be supportive and try to help you.

Balding does, at first, cause some depression or concern, but I think the intensity you have is a bit over the top. I can understand 'disappointment' but you seem a bit terrified of it (a bit too strong a word, but you get my point). I am not a psychologist, but I think what may be revealing itself is a self esteem problem .... "If I go bald, I am worth less" more or less. If that is the case, I suggest some counseling .... because if you are on an 'edge of self esteem' it will probably happen over something else ... in the future.

Finally, if you cannot stop the inevitable, try to see it as a positive. There are many famous and GOOD LOOKING men who are TOTALLY bald. Whether it is good or bad depends on your perception of it. You probably can't change 'bald' but you can change perception.
