Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My last "cry" for help, I got a phone call from a girl on here, I posted something, in the morning, I slept the day away, I came back that night and not a single person replied to my post, it made me feel SO much worse.
I was sitting on my bed starring at a bottle of pills, so ready to end it all. She called and said she was worried, she didn't quite understand what I meant by my post, and that was why no one responded to it. I was so hurt, and so depressed, I was beyond ready to end it all, she reached out to me, I got myself some help and turned myself into the hospital and got myself some help.
All calls for help should be taken seriously, but we should be aware of what the person is really saying, and just listen to them. However if they are using for attention, they need a LOT more help than we can give them...
The only people I don't believe are politicians and people still go out to vote after being lied to for decades. If people just wanted attention they would just say they are lonely but the general public has no idea on how to handle suicidal thoughts and never probably will. For people contemplating this....our governments should have more safeguards in place instead of hit and miss help lines.
This site is a blessing and has kept people alive.
Maybe some do it for attention but like GB said how are you going to tell who? People need support and I imagine most who post it are truly feeling they will harm themselves and feel they have no where else to turn.
I wish we could edit our posts. I should have put trigger on the top.
I do sincerely apologize.
Most of us on here know that there are those who use suicide for attention on here. It makes it difficult for those who are really in need for help. I guess what we have to do is try to help all that ask and hope their heart is in the right place.
TRIGGER....
I use to have a friend in high school that was always using suicide as a method of getting attention. I was always the one trying to stop her. Even if I had to get physical with her. She would lock herself in the bathroom and get razors and shit. I finally got tired of it and told her to go ahead. Do you know, she never pulled that with me again? She is still alive and kicking. Don't worry, I still kept my eye on here, I just didn't let her know it.
I don't know why she wanted the attention. I was her friend, she already had my attention. It just didn't make sense to me.
I have been suicidal. To tell you the truth, I don't think anyone on here could have helped me. I just would not of posted it in the first place. . I would not have made the cry for help if I did not want help. It's like those stupid contracts that therapist try to get you to sign, That is the dumbest shit I have ever heard. If I am truly considering suicide the last thing I am worried about is a contract I signed.
I have found that I can't help everyone. I usually avoid suicide post because I am scared I may do more damage than help . I applaud those who do reach out and talk to those in need. Just remember, you are not superhuman, if you help doesn't work, it is not your fault. You did your best.
That, and I have been taken-in by people just trying to yank people around for a few hours; a very sick and twisted thing to do. So, actually, making a pronouncement that doing that is wrong is meant for those attempting to mess with people; it's not aimed at people who are trying to help.
Please don't take it personally, or take it out of context, max. No one's saying, "Don't Help", or "don't try to help.". People here do the best they can under the circumstances to help as much as they are able. This site has its share of invisble heroes, people who the rest of us will never know spent hours listening and talking and trying to help.
So please don't think it's something that's going to stop, anytime soon. The good people rarely jump up and shout out for attention.
Sadly, though, there are still poeple who come here and use it as emotional blackmail, or as some kind of sick thrill, watching people get very worked-up and worried.
I've seen a lot go down here over the years.
Time, experience, and your gut instincts can come in very handy when attempting to determine whether a cry for help is valid, or not.
I'm certain about 99% of them, are.
