Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

What do you think makes a person paranoid? I don't know. I get sensitive to when I think people want to know too much of my business or they are too clingy toward me. I think it's a result of all of the years of domestic violence that I lived with. My psychiatrist seems to think that I am paranoid. I don't know.
I have a good friend that I've had for years. Sometimes, I'm not sure why, I feel like she depends on me emotionally too much. In fairness, I would say I've done the same, though I try to limit that and not be so codependent in my interactions.
Sometimes she asks me to do activities that I'm just not that keen on. She wanted to see the Barbie movie. I might be the only person on the planet who just didn't want to see it, but I just didn't. I said that I could not make it and that I was heading out that night. I wasn't. I just didn't want to see this movie. I have a hard time saying no and I feel guilty letting people down, so it's hard for me to come up with any reply like this. She then asked where I was headed to. I didn't answer. I felt sort of guilty not answering, but I learned that in being assertive that you are not supposed to give reasons. The truth was I was at home, and I really didn't want to provide an explanation, plus I think it's a little intrusive to ask people's plans. I'd have to lie further in the situation, which I prefer not to do, so I said nothing.
I think I'm used to when I was a kid, my parents were extremely controlling and abusive. They needed to know where I was and who I was with at all times. Some things remind me of that sometimes. I don't know that this necessarily makes a person paranoid, but it does make me cautious. I guard my autonomy as I've had so little of it.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.
I can relate that people feel like they have to know everything, And it's just to clingy, Like a Company I was working at, This lady felt she had to know everything (she was a big gossip) the general manager took me into his office, to let me know I might be laid off, And the lady wanted to know what we talked about, I said I didn't want to talk about it.
There was An incident at the gym one time, there was girl on a bike mid to late 20's early 30's I was on another bike, I think she saw me looking at her, She got off the bike, I followed, which I really don't remember doing, Wasn't until I got to Ihe threshold of the hallway, That something made me stop. I think the girl thought I was going to hurt her, cause I saw her glancing back at me..
So, I think all these thing's are related to paranoia,
And I'm 47 and my parent's still have to know where I am, and who I'm with......All parent's do that wheather Your a teenager or not, I still live with mine.

It depends, for me it was abuse when i was a kid and later it was caused by people rejecting me right and left. It also depends on what the original thing was.
My abusers were Mormons when i was a kid. For me they trigger my paranoia but for good reason. This past weekend they tried to get to my mom and when i told them to stay away they basically got snarky and acted like they wouldn't. I basically told them to stay away in Jesus name so if they don't I have further evidence they don't truly follow Jesus.
My family is Penticostal and haven't been mormon for about 30 years but they don't ever let you go. They track you down and try to force themselves back into your life. I have told them for almost 30 years we follow Jesus and the Bible and don't believe that joseph smith was a prophet. I won't go into it further past that.
Sometimes paranoia is for a good reason. For me its because my abusers continue to pursue me and my family.

Ok if she is your good friend and depends on you and you on her that's not co-dependancy. Real co-dependancy is more of a toxic relationship that a person fools themselves into needing the antagonist.
Think of an abused woman who gets beaten by her husband but she won't leave because she thinks she can't live without him. It can be further codependent when the wife also abuses the husband (back and forth abuse) for true co-dependancy.
Furthermore if you don't want to see the barbie movie then just tell her. It's best not to lie to a friend about that sort of thing. Maybe you both could find a different movie to watch. Personally i would like to see Sound of Freedom than something like the barbie movie. Just be truthful and don't dig a hole for yourself in your friendship.
There is also compromise. You watch the movie with her and she watches something she doesn't like with you that you like.
I have friends i don't get to see very often and love it when they take interest in what's going on in my life. My true friends are my family and through that i have an extra brother, two sisters, and five nephews from that.
It's ok also to set boundaries if you need to but don't fall into lying to your friends. The fallout from that would be a whole lot harder to deal with than just telling them you don't want to see a movie.
Be thankful for your friends. Be thankful for those that care enough to bring you close to them.
One of my friends has had two strokes and is hard to talk to anymore. I love her like a sister but it's usually the same conversation each and every time. In truth i still have the conversation with her because i know she needs someone to talk to and her path is hard. She is so sick that i don't expect her to last the next decade so i will enjoy the repeat conversations with her as I will cherish my sister until the very end and pray for her with every step she takes.
I hope this helps some :)
