Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Just got referred here by the helpline today... Here is to seeing if they were right that getting out how I feel to strangers may help me.
My fiance has severe depression. For the past month he has been distant and has no motivation. I have been doing everything that I can think of to help him. My best friend also has severe depression and bipolar. I have also been there to support her as much as I can. My mother and father also have issues that I have been supporting them through.
For the past few months I have dropped back into a severe state of self hatred. I was diagnosed with severe reoccuring depression a few years back and I have attempted suicide numerous times, each time failing because I couldn't finish it off. I have self harmed on and off since middle school (I am currently 27). I was clean from self harm for a year, until today.
I feel like I have no one to talk to anymore. Everyone else has their own issues and when I try to talk to them they turn it into being about them. I hate myself and everyone around me right now. I don't know what to do anymore. I can't afford to get back on my meds or see a doctor, and I can't afford to admit myself somewhere to get help.
What are some things that you all have done to distract yourself or make others realise you need help?

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

It's been some time since my last post...sorry. I've been going through a challenging time with the sale of my home, purchase of a condo and my adult asperger son that lives with me. I've had days where I couldn't get out of bed, days where I stayed in my pj's and days where all I managed to do was eat, drink fluids and take care of my Sweet Mia kitty. Sweet Mia came to me from a shelter about...

You can tell anyone you need help, but I don't think it will, unless its a professional.
One of my sisters suffers from Bipolar Type 1 and borderline disorder, and my other sister is like me, Recurrent Depression, moderate, with GAD. Often, I tell them or my mom, I need help, I can't live life like this, but they don't understand. They tell me- "Oh I have it worse" "Being depressed about whatever, isn't a good excuse." But that's just me...
I think you're on the right track...you're here. There is no use suffering alone.
Are you supporting them or are you trying to find a way to fix them and their lives?
It's not possible to support two people, when you are suicidal. I'd suggest you type google search, your town and mental health support groups and seek out professional care Now for yourself.
Also, I want you to really think about how you feel when you give advice, and it is not done. When you listen and listen to the same story over and over again and again?
This is the tough one....Do You Feel Powerful when you give help and support? I used to do the same, I felt I was helping, in fact I was trying to be 'in control' of someone else and avoiding my own pile of shit....denial and avoidance get covered up really fast when you are So Focused and then You are the lost one who will need help, as you do right now. Just think...enabling, look up codependent behavior characteristics. Their life journey is Not For You to drive....they are responsible for themselves...not you.
