Ebay when it turns into a bidding war in the last 30 seconds anyways? 3 people put in about 10 different bids trying to outbid my max until one succeed in the last 7 seconds.

There's only one way you should approach any auction. If there is something you want, you decide what is the maximum price you will pay for it. You have to be ready for the fact that someone might be prepared to pay more than you.
Once you have decided what your very maximum bid is, put a bid slightly lower than you have decided on and then bid again with your highest bid.
A bidding war will make you pay more than you want as you can get carried away.
If no one bids near your maximum, you will win by the percentage above the next bid to yours. It doesn't mean you will have to pay your maximum bid.
This is how dealers always bid. Have that maximum price you will pay and you either win or lose.

There are "snipe" sights for e-bay that will insert your bid just seconds before the auction closes making sure you win. I follow what Tiggy said. Set yourself a limit and don't get caught in a bidding war. If you are patient enough and wait it out you will eventually get the item in another auction. I've been doing e-bay (buying and selling) for over 10 years and at first it's easy to get caught up in the excitement and the "I must win" mentality. Patience in this instance is truly a virtue.
