The only thing i know about it is that it tends to cause their best doctors to move to the U.S. where until recently we've had the free
enrerprise system. I can give you an example of hus. I have a friend who is a our moving towards their type of system will adversely affect us. I have a friend who is a top plastic surgeon in facial reconstruction..
mainly for accident and burn patients. He says because of the new rules to limit what medicare can pay for his services, he will no longer
accept medicare patients. He says "Im not in business to lose money".
For anyone who thinks this is selfish , ask yourself if you were a plumber and normally charged $50 per hour , but the govt said on certain jobs you could only charge $15. Would you still accept those jobs when you have full time work At $50 ? In addition he says it will
discourage people from becoming docs, because the average debt
for med school graduates exceeds $150,000. Bottom line is socialized
medicine is not good and thats what Canada has.

Canada has a taxpayer-funded healthcare system similar to the one in my native Britain. One thing worth keeping in mind is that to a lot of people, "socialism" isn't a dirty word in the same way as it is to those of us of a more conservative persuasion. People like to be told that they're getting something for free - in this case, healthcare. It isn't free, of course, and that's why the average Canadian probably pays a higher overall rate of tax. It's just a different way of addressing the issue of healthcare: in the U.S., you pay less in tax and buy your own private insurance (or not), whereas in Canada and other countries with socialised healthcare, you pay more in tax but don't buy your own insurance.

The Canadian healthcare system is held in fairly high regard, as is the British NHS. I don't have direct experience of the Canadian system myself, but the British system is beset by many problems and is increasingly reliant upon foreign doctors.
