Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'm 13. And I know everyone is probably like "ha you think you have it hard you're just a kid going through a phase". But I'm not. I struggle with depression and my biggest enemy is self-harm and cutting. Besides the point, I tried telling my friend who had experienced almost the same thing, in her way of course. And well I kinda made her even sicker. And I feel so bad. So I kinda just stopped coming to her in hopes of her health And then my. mom found out about my depression through my sick friend's mom. And basically, my mom doesn't understand a thing. I was getting dressed one morning and she just barged into my room and she pinned me down, searching for cut marks after I repeated told her to stop. But she didn't. She keeps telling me to come to her, but I just can't. Not when she acts like this. So then, I only had one option. My boyfriend. I wrote a long text explaining everything, including a recent suicide attempt. And it was almost like he didn't even hear me. He just told me that I was going to be okay. But then guess what happened His mom found my text. And she told my mom. And now I feel trapped. There is no one that is safe to go to. My mom doesn't understand. I only ruin my friend's life. And now even my boyfriend won't listen. I just want to escape this world. I'm running out of opinions and I don't know how much more of my mind I can take.

It's National Doughnut Day!Which three would you like? (never mind the calories, fat, or sugar content; just go with what you would pick if none of that mattered and whatever health issues you might have that would keep you from eating one in real life can be cast aside for this exercise as well... have at it!)

Hi All.... It's great to see all of the new people joining the site... I'm loving it!!...smileI'm not sure if people are aware that if you don't have Bipolar Disorder but have a loved one who has the disorder we do have a board for people to go to in order to share their experiences and seek friendship, support or adviseIt's the Friends and Family of Bipolar Board.... I hope you'll take a...

As for your friend, ultimately we are responsible for our own decisions so give yourself a break on that one.
I was your age, it stinks, I know, growing up is painful.
Don't expect your parents to be reasonable, they are scared when they are faced with emotional issues.
My daughter cuts, I went bat * crazy when I found out. Fortunately I am a recovering addict so I was able to calm down a lot quicker than some. She is in therapy now. Don't expect therapy to fix you, some of your stuff you will have to carry, some will eventually get sorted out.
Give yourself permission to take a mental holiday. Find something, reading, gaming, walking in the woods, something healthy that you can use as a no thinking, no stressing zone.
You may not end up perfect but I suspect if you work hard at dealing with your issues, in a year from now you'll be a whole lot better.
Keep pushing forward, one day at a time!
I can give you a couple different views on your situation...I've been a cutter for 30 plus years on and off, I'm a Mom who's raised 2 sons, I've lived with BiPolar Disorder w/Severe Suicidal Depression for 27 years, and I'm a Clinical Therapist, although I don't see patients anymore due to Medical Issues, I still do Volunteer work with a Teens & Self Injury group and I work a Suicide Hotline twice a week.
Your cutting, its a Learned Behavior that you've developed to help deal with all of the emotions and feelings and Depression...all that stuff that clogs up your head and runs round and round like a movie on an endless loop. When we're young, we tend not to know how to deal with all of that, and girls especially, turn to Self Injury as a way to deal with it all. Talking to your friend about your problems is a pretty normal thing to do, especially if she's going through some of the same things. If she's triggered by some of the conversations and dealing with both of your problems, that can happen, but you did not intend any harm and you didn't know that it would be hard for her. Hon don't blame yourself its the psychopathy of the disease of Depression, not anything you did.
Your mom. I can tell you that your mom loves you, she's worried about you, and she's scared to death that something very bad is going to happen to you. The thing is, dealing with Self Harm and Cutting with your child is not an easy thing to do. Your mom doesn't mean to overload you, but she's got all these people telling her that your doing things that could actually kill you and your having thoughts of suicide and harming yourself....and as a parent, that's a really scary thing to hear about your child and know that there's not really much you can do about it.....because you can't follow them around 24/7 to keep them safe. Try not to be too hard on your mom, she's just scared, like your upset and scared and anxious over everything that is going on.
Have you tried to sit down with Mom and have a conversation about the cutting and the depression? I know it will be really, really hard and uncomfortable, but since she's getting information from others and hearing about what your doing, this might be the time to try and have a conversation about things. See Depression doesn't just go away, it's a disease like any other disease, it has to be treated and managed. It can get better, but you need to see a Psychiatrist or a Therapist who can help you with the Depression and also teach you safe, healthy Coping Skills to replace the Self Injury behavior. All of this can help and you can feel much better, but it takes treatment and it takes some time. And since you're only 13, you have to have your parents finding the right Dr.'s to help you and you'll need their support. Hon this is a long term Disease and you're going to be managing it for a long time, and you will need your parents support as you go. Its not something you can do all on your own.
I hope that you try and talk with your mom, and I truly hope that she helps you get some Professional help, so you'll have someone to talk to and have someone to teach you how to handle all of this in a healthier way.
Take care,
Kat
I just want to let you know that not everyone would treat you that way just because of your age. I know someone who attempted suicide since she was in 5th grade. So I do understand that what you are feeling is real. I would advise for you to seek for professional help; however, if having financial problem and/or you don't want to go, then I want you to know that I am here for you. If ever you need someone to talk to, I am here to lend an ear to listen and a helping hand. So there is no need to go alone.
Moreover, I would understand that confiding to someone sometime feels like a burden. To be specific, telling someone your problem tends to weigh on its shoulder, especially when everyone have their own problems going on. However, I do want you to know that it won't be a burden for me. I can't promise to be an adviser and be here everyday, but I will do my best to support, advise, listen, and be here online as much as I can. I am no professional, but I am majoring to become a therapist and although I am far from reaching my goal, I still care and help others as much as I can.
Sometime it is not about having an answer, it may just be that you need someone to confide to. Therefore, if you know someone who is trustworthy, speak to that person about your situation. However, if you do not want to risk talking to a stranger, then I would recommend writing in a journal. If you don't want loved ones to read your private journal, then sometime typing it on computer or laptop and erasing it after you are done would help ease your mind. Or you could always find a hobby to relax you. I find that making a routine is a wonderful way to make you feel less stress and give you reason to go on.
Nonetheless, I do not know how your relationship with your mother is, but if you are very close to her, then I would recommend you to talk to her. Sometime you might think that your parents doesn't understand your situation, but an adult would know and he/she would provide the kind of help that you need. If your mother is trying very hard to help you, let her do so, because she know that it is her responsibility and you don't want to make her feel like she is failing you. Moreover, try to think about some people who struggle to have help from loved ones. If you are getting her help and support, please allow her to make it right, because there are people out here that doesn't have the kind of help that you get.
And I know that at your age, your brain is still developing; therefore, you won't always feel like she is at your side. However, if she is providing, not neglecting you, and has given you all of her love and caring, then I pray that you don't turn your back on that. Like I've stated before, an adult would know what is best for you. And if your mother has proven that she is here for you, whether she understand you or not, don't push her away. What matters the most is that she try, so the best thing you could do is to try too. Make her understand by sitting her down, open up about how you feel, and share every little details of what is going on inside of you. Communication and listening are the key! (Always remember to keep a calm conversation)
To sum it up, you are very young and still have a whole future ahead of you. Don't let your problems wear you down. Especially, you have prom to look forward to, driving lesson, graduation, college, and building a beautiful home of your own. Life could be really beautiful if you learn to accept the bad that comes with the good. Every moments in our life, we have to remind ourselves to just dance in the rain. So take your pains and turn it into gold. You're going to thank it later in life! Remember, problems are not as big as we believe. Like the saying stated, "Nothing, not even fears, are bigger than God". So come on and dance in the rain until the sun rise up. You're going to be in your adolescent or adult year and think to yourself like, "Wow, you've made it through all of the trials and tribulation and you're going to feel content that so many times you want to give up, but you stood strong and give your life more than just a passing glance." I'm not going to lie, things will get ugly until it becomes beautiful. You just have to remember to dance in the rain! =)
