Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Rheumatoid Arthritis, Advanced OsteoArthritis, Liver Disease, Cluster Migraines, Seizure Disorder, Chronic Kidney Stones, Factor H2 Clotting Disorder (a form of Hemophilia) Degenerative Cartilage Disease, MRSA carrier w/active Flares, Atelectasis (random collapsing of lower left lung lobe) and a few other things and I also have BiPolar Disorder. I have no remaining removable organs left, I've had 30 surgeries in the last 18 years, numerous procedures and take 22 medications (pills and injections) each day. I live by myself, by choice, by my 27 yr. old son lives at the Fire Station (he's a Fire Fighter/EMT) a mile up the road and checks on me daily, which I don't particularly like.
Yes when we have multiple life threatening diseases/illnesses and have to have things checked/monitored/treated its hard to not get stressed out or upset when the person in our life that helps to do that doesn't take it seriously or argues and doesn't bother to communicate well when trying to discuss the situation. It's serious, it needs to be treated serious and after 2 years together your Boyfriend should get it...I get it...most people would get it.
Here's the thing, it sounds like your Boyfriend is kind of tired of being in the role of Caretaker. We don't think about their side of the relationship and how it feels having to be our Caretaker instead of just our boyfriend or spouse. I was married for 24 years and have dealt with Chronic Illnesses/Chronic Pain/BiPolar Disorder since I was 17, I've been through 2 bouts of Cancer....my ex-husband had to deal with A LOT of medical stuff for me and did a lot of care taking and there were plenty of times that he just got tired of it....and we had a 26 year relationship. I don't blame him, if the tables were turned I wouldn't want to constantly have to deal with someone else's medical stuff 24/7 as opposed to just being their partner in life
The thing is your situation doesn't sound like it will improve much over time, you've got serious diseases that don't just go away, so this will be something he's going to have to deal with always, if you guys stay together. If its not something he wants to do or is up to doing its better to find out now instead of putting in more time and getting to a point where your just arguing and harping at each other. It can be a dangerous situation for you, not just an exasperating and hurtful one...so if he's not going to take it seriously or doesn't want to do it anymore, you need to know so you can make other arrangements for someone to help you.
You need to have a conversation with your Boyfriend and find out what the real problem is here. Its hard to think of our partners feelings and stresses in the situation, but they do have their own feelings about it and its not an easy situation for anyone to deal with, so you have to be willing and ready to commit to it.
Hope things go well and settle down for you soon,
Kat
