Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
H.O.P.E. (Hold on pain ends). Cliché as it may be, this can and will pass, it's not easy but you can survive, and you are valuable and worthy. Don't lose hope, you are not alone.
Well, your inhaler won't kill you but you'll feel hella sick if you keep that up.
Over here in NZ you get basic depression meds from your general practitioner. Don't phone; organise to go in. I don't think they like doing things for you that they don't charge for. So go and ask them to prescribe you some mild antidepressant. Tell them your depression's got away on you a bit.
You shouldn't have to go too deeply into detail about it, but see what you can get. I am confused you have a psychologist. Is that person trained in counselling or just diagnosing psychological disorders? Because you need someone trained in counselling. Who cares what disorder you've got; you want help getting rid of it.
So anyway that might be different terminology in the different countries, but even so make sure your counsellor counsels. And can unpick you and find out what's causing this.
doctors think meds can cure you like a dose of antibiotics. They say you have a chemical imbalance, which is what they're taught to say while they give you pills because it makes you feel better about taking the pills. But the reality is that if your mood is very low, there's something in your life that is keeping it low, and you do need help sorting out just what that is, and just how to fix it. And it takes years. so don't be discouraged. It has taken me seven years.
If I had it to do again though, I'd do it again. These seven years have been hell, but they have unleashed me. I have my own life now, for the first time in 46 years. That's a heck of a long time to wait. So if you're younger than me? you're doing better than me. Stick with it, be proud of how far you've already come, and hang on in there. This is SLOW. but it's entirely worth it.
That's not maturity so much as perspective. Breaking a nail is not the same experience in a concentration camp as it is at a summer camp.
I'm only saying this because when others say we're mature for our age, they burden us. They burden us with injustice. How come I have to put up with this rot just because I'm more understanding? How is that fair? It's not.
Being mature is partly not being bothered, but also partly understanding. Having a broad perspective is considering the bother within a context of stuff that's way worse. They are different.
Just remember: you don't have to be mature. You don't have to be strong. Be weak. Be childish. Cry, stamp your foot. Get what the other kids get. Don't miss out because someone's stuck you with this extra responsibility for being mature (aka putting up with shit.)
