i have tennis elbow for over a year in both arms and may have to quit my jobs. has anyone tried surgery, prolotherapy, prp injections, or rest? which of these worked and which didn't work? Many thanks for your input!!! Every doctor seems to recommend something different. Also posted in sports injuries

my mum had surgery for it i think.
she also had carpel tunnel.
no idea if its related to tennis elbow :s
but she had surgery for all i think and all are now gone :).

I believe it is known as lateral epichondylitis. It hurts like hell. I could be mistaken, but the common treatment is to cease aggravating it. That was my experience. I had to stop 'doing what caused it' which was the posture I used when typing on a keyboard. Even though the pain is near the elbow, it is caused by the position of the WRIST. It cleared up in about a month once I modified that.

I have doubts that surgery will help. Here is good info on the problem:

I think they will try cortisone shots in the area first, then if that doesn't work there is surgery to help the problem. My friend ended up with the surgery and she healed wonderfully and even plays tennis!!!

the only cure is imobilization (tensor and a sling), ice (5 minutes on, 10 minutes off), and rest.
it should take 2-3 days to be 100% again.

there is no surgical procedure for tennis elbow.

and, as 90% of the time it is caused by repetative motion, find out the cause, and if it is something that has to be done for work, find another method to do it.

i used to get it severely from banging nails (i'm a carpenter)
so i just want you to know that to have it in both limbs must be sheer torture, and i'm sorry you're going through this.
when you say you've had it for over a year, do you mean consecutively?

Yes, I grew up playing tennis and played it most of my adult life.
I did get tennis elbow, and the doctor explained that the cartiledge, (sp) which is the size of a stamp, was tearing.

I cheated and had a cortisone shot, and then fixed/adjusted my forehand, to prevent the tennis elbow from happening again.

Rest is always advised, but my cortisone shot worked.

I have it constantly,no longer can work do to that and other hand and elbow issues. Went to alot of drs. no one mentioned surgery.I do ice them alot and take nuerontin.Ice is a great help Good Luck

In my state they will only give you so many cortisone shots I think
