Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
This is from another post you made:
"i'm having a lot of trouble with taking care of my mom and dealing with family. she's living with me now. i'm totally overwhelmed and exhausted. my fmaily is using me. there's no one to help me. i can't handle it anymore. i am going crazy. please help me."
The problem is stated pretty clearly. Taking care of your Mom is too much for you, and you need help from the rest of the family.
Nothing is going to change until she is in a situation where you are not the only one caring. She may need to be in a caretaking home, or whatever, but you are overwhelmed and the family doesn't care.
I so understand your predicament. I took care of mom for the last nine years of her life. We went form simply not good to be on her own any more to full blown Alzheimer's. My depression went from mild seasonal to severe two years before she joined me. About the time she came to live with us, I read a book from Joyce Meyer called battlefield of the mind. It's worth the time and attention. If you have a hard time focusing on print or don;t read a lot, go to Audible .com and download the book. It's an audio book of the month club. I started with a book or two just to see what it was like and am an enthusiastic subscriber about seven years later.
It's time to look through your mom's papers. Leave no document unread and no insurance unresearched. I know that medicare does not cover nursing, but there is insurance available that will cover so many hours a month. Keep your mom's bookkeeping separate from yours and invest in help by hiring a CNA for at least 12 hours a week so you can get some rest. Expect to go through a few companies over time. Companies have highs and lows. There are some good nurses out there and they can give you the break you so desperately need. As mom nears her last day on earth, you will need to keep your boundaries strong and flexible. Help her through all the changes and let her communicate her needs or desires and meet them. Get a hospice company; they go through medicare and you will not have any added expenses from them.
