Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I am so sorry you are feeling low. I gently encourage you to see a psychiatrist and a therapist. No one needs to know except you! It is all confidential. I couldn't manage my depression without meds and counseling. It is not an embarrassment to ask for help.
I can tell by your post that you are a kind and generous soul. That alone will bring the right woman into your life one day. I think that carries more beauty than any outward appearance. Don't give up hope!
You have a purpose in this world just by posting and reaching out to others. My uncle (catholic priest) calls this person-to-person ministry. You have already helped me because I have felt the same way you do now. Especially after I lost my job as a RN because of my depression. But in time I have found purpose in the little things I do. I think God is teaching me a lesson that I have taken care of others for so long, it is time I learn to take care of myself. This may be true for you as well.
Please don''t hurt yourself. You are far too precious!! Keep posting and let us know how you're doing. The world need people like you; especially men with divine virtues. They are hard to come by. I have a friend just like you. He is a treasure to me and brings me joy. I know you do the same for others. many hugs
Why do you need a purpose? Why is that necessary to be happy in life? This is something we have been programmed to believe but is it true? If we accept as truth a thought for long enough, that thought becomes ingrained in us--a belief. But is it true?
What would be so horrible about accepting every single day you wake up, that this day might be your last day? Rather than assume you have all this time ahead to achieve some vague idea of a purpose or goal you've set out for yourself, why not just enjoy the moment as it happens?
We like to think dolphins are very intelligent. Chimpanzes too. Dogs. Cats. There are other very intelligent life forms on this planet. Do you think they worry about having a purpose? I must hunt and risk my life and then eat this caribou so I might continue long enough to carry on my genetic make up after I'm dead. That's my purpose." Do you think such a thought actually crosses a wolf's mind? Or do you think he just goes with the flow? He's hungry, so he hunts and eats. He's cold, so he gathers with his mates in a den.
Religion wants us to believe we're some cosmic special project put here by some diety with a master plan for each of us. And if we don't have a destiny....some noble elevated purpose defining our whole lives...then what is the point?
How about just living? Why can't that be the point? Why can't your point be living your day, enjoying your success at your job, knowing you're a help to your friends (how wonderful is that?!?!?). People see you as a clown? Is that horrible? Seems to me the people who make other people laugh or smile (and can laugh at themselves too) are the ones that make being here worth it--and life worth living. If you're such a person, I would value that. I would want to know you and be your friend. I would be drawn to you. Why can't you make that your "purpose?" Bringing a smile to someone else's face? Making someone laugh.
You're not an idiot and you're not dumb. You're you and you're living your life and it sounds to me from what you've written people enjoy knowing you. They think it's a joke you'd want to kill yourself because they can't imagine why you'd be unhappy in your life. Why would you? That having no purpose thing again? YOu do have a purpose. Living your life. Using what time you have available to make a difference in the lives of your friends and people who care about you. That's a pretty special reason right there, don't you think? that's not a thing everyone can do. If it was the world would be such a happier place.
Try to see what you have, not what you think should be. What should be is never what IS and worrying about what should be...will always disappoint you and let you down.
