Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Anyway, I know how you feel. I have struggled with depression, anxiety, and PTSD for decades. Glad you are able to keep somewhat occupied and that you get a chance to be outside. I have been keeping busy sewing(quilting, making masks for friends, crafting, reading, and working on a puzzle. I try to take a walk every day, weather permitting; being outside really helps. I have a deck out back and it's nice just to sit out there and get some air.
Glad you have appointments with your psychiatrist and regular doc coming up! It's been a difficult, frustrating , and scary time.
Hope you get to feeling better and keep me posted.
It's sounds like you are doing what you need to to get through the day.
Thanks for sharing with us. I'm so glad you connecting with your therapist, psychiatrist and doctor during these times. Who else can you connect with via phone during this time? I'm sure you have a lot of people who care deeply for you and would love to check in with you if you reach out to them. Does anyone else- friends, family, pastor, or mentor - know what's going on? It always helps me to share and process with someone (usually older and wiser than me) that I can trust for wise counsel.
I want to share something with you my boss shared with us this week, called the SCARF model:
Away, threat response <-- SCARF --> Toward, reward response
SCARF = Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness, Fairness
Status: How we see ourselves related to others
Certainty: When we are sure of how the world works and then we find that it is not the case.
Autonomy: Sense of self of control over your life.
Relatedness: Meaningful connection and security with others.
Fairness: Equality between people or circumstances.
When you can bring stability to any of these five you will move more towards reward response. In addition, focusing on gratitude can help you move towards a positive perspective. It's more than just a "feel good" thing to do, but actually a tool that allows you be more creative.
I hope you find this helpful and wish you the best!
