Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hi my name is Brooke and I have been depressed for about 6 years now. I have been hiding in my room for those years and its gotten worst for the past two after starting homeschool. I barely leave my room and if I do its to eat then go back in. I hate this, I hate feeling like my life is drifting away while im on my bed doing nothing. When in my room I usually do nothing, even the things to used to bring me joy, like playing videogames, drawing, reading, and binge watching my favorite shows, do nothing for me. Just talking with my family has me exhausted, I don't why that is. I have tried going to therapy but my mom doesn't have the time with her work to set an appointment and drive me their since it's too far away. Besides, even if a therapist office was nearby I wouldn't go because I am scared to leave my house. Its so frustating, so I decided to join this site and group as my last resort, because no matter how much I try to get myself back out there, its not working. I just.. I don't know what to do.

I got an email from Kohl's that I had a 40% off coupon for today and tomorrow only. It took me about an hour but I placed an order and got some great deals. I have been wanting a new dress. I like dressing up sometimes. My birthday is coming up and I have dinner plans at a nice restaurant. But, honestly, I'm a little out of control again. I went through this in the fall. I bought...

Has anyone else noticed that clearly speaking and doing things intentionally is liberating because it helps combat the feeling of depression and a sense of hopelessness? Let me share a little more: in my experience, when those who have tried to project a hidden agenda that is obviously not aligned with integrity and well-being, it's best to be firm and speak clearly from self-awareness and...

There are some very good Online Therapists now who can be very helpful. Talkspace uses very good accredited licensed Therapists and Psychiatrists and it's not that costly. Maybe you can check it out and talk to your mom about it. You could talk to a Therapist right there in your room and learn coping skills and ways to work your way out. Another good site is "halfofus.org".
Take care,

I GOOGLED teen agoraphobia and it resulted in a lot of hits. It seems to be part of a panic disorder. Please get some help for it.
I am sorry you have had to go through this alone. It's hard to feel like you are walking through something really hard all by yourself. I hope you feel supported and encouraged through this site.
It sounds like your mom is pretty busy. Have you been able to open up to her about how you are feeling?
After studying human behavior a bit (I am a social worker), one thing I have learned is that humans are creatures of habit. We tend to stick to our routines to feel safe, but the more we become routine, the more fearful we become of going outside of it.. My one suggestion of something that you could work towards is making tangible goals for yourself to challenge yourself. For example, if talking to your family is something that is hard for you, make setting a goal of getting out of your room and talking to a family member for 15 min.... keep doing that and see how you do, then maybe make another challenge for yourself. One baby step at a time.. and know you aren't alone... reach out :)
