I just started treatment for my depression two weeks ago. I feel awful. It all started a year ago when my mom was diagnosed with liver failure and now she's passed on, but my heart still hurts. I pulled away from all of my family members and now that I am on the road to recovery my husband says he can't wait for me to recover and asked for a divorce last night.
My whole life has been my husband, son and work. Now I feel like my whole world is upside down.
I have no idea how to connect with other people and I wonder how long it's going to take the Lexapro to make things better

Not to get you more down or anything but it can take years to get all the way recovered. I have been on 39 different psych meds and am finding ones that work for more than 2 or 3 months. Right now I am on lexapro too and it helps.
Anti-depressants take around 4-6 weeks to get full effect even if they work at all.
I can understand how you feel about your life being up-side down. When I started recovery mine was like that. Had to change my friends, my city and state, and my family dynamic.
Since then I am a happier person.

I am on Lexapro right now, in addition to other medications. I honestly can't tell if it's helping or not yet. It's so hard to figure out wether it's the actual depression or sadness due to life circumstances. Last night my significant other said that he doesn't know if he can stick with me through this thing. He thinks I have given up on myself (which I may have). People just DON'T understand unless they have suffered from depression themselves. SO frustrating.

I know I already posted on here but I thought of other things. I felt that I couldn't connect to other people and now I only sometimes can do it. Mental illness ruins relationships a lot of the time. My boyfriend of almost two years dumped me when I was in the psych hospital. The only good thing was that my Mom got reciprocally better at support for me. She started by kicking me out of the house but now since I am in recovery and now I can open up to her about pretty much everything. I hope everything works out!
