Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
If you read a discussion I posted about 1-2 years ago you might remember some struggles I listed while I was taking Fluoxetine (Prozac).
It was called "Unconscious for a second? Fluoxetine? Anyone else?" http://www.mdjunction.com/ forums/depression-discussions/ general-support/11457924- unconscious-for-a-second- fluoxetine-anyone-else (couldn't recover the url from dailystrength but I posted the same thing here)
I described terrible side effects such as:
Getting extremely dizzy when standing up from the couch/bed to the point of shaking wild, blacking out, not feeling my arms, face... Once I lost balance, fell down in the bathroom against the shelves but then I didn't understand what was happening, I didn't remember for a while. Almost fell down the stairs once.
Back then I was wondering about the cause... Now I am 100% sure the cause was the combination of Sertraline (Zoloft) and Fluoxetine (Prozac).
Zoloft was my first med, it didn't work out for me too much. So I was changed to Prozac. To avoid an abrupt interruption and a drastic change or compounds (not recommended), I was told to alternate between them... One day Zoloft, the next Prozac and so on and so on, lowering the dose on Zoloft each day until I was able to stay just with the Fluoxetine.
The thing is, meds have what is called a "residual effect", meaning that if you don't take it for one day or two, the compounds will still remain in your system for a while. Effects won't dissapear that quickly, even if you don't take both meds at once.
So please please never combine those two. Ask your doctor about other combinations if you need to.

I accidentally deleted a journal entry that I wish I hadn't. Is there any way to get it back?
