Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Good morning. As I may have mentioned before, I have an issue with housework and paperwork. I am completely sedentary when I am at home. The most I clean is on trash day. I am also overweight. These two issues have kept me from dating for years. Tomorrow is an anniversary of the end of my last real relationship 27 years ago and 10 year anniversary of losing the best job I ever had. I think of cleaning every day and every day I say to myself "I don't feel like it." As of now, I have nothing going on for the weekend. Again, I am thinking of cleaning. And so my question to myself today was "Aren't you tired of living this way?" The answer was "Yes". I had a conversation with a guy friend in the middle of the night two days ago. He told me that he lost 18 pounds since the beginning of April just by going from a completely sedentary life to an active life. 18 pounds! So that is a motivator. I have also mentioned about at least one friend who was about to be homeless but a second friend came out of the woodwork and was about to be homeless. I felt terrible because I couldn't offer my home to either friend. And just recently my cat started peeing or spraying around my house. So as to the first friend who was about to be homeless, even though her old landlord said she could stay with them until she found a place, they turned on her. I probably put in about 25 hours of searching for a place for her. I finally found a place for her and even found a hotel for her to stay in starting last Saturday. She sent me pics of her hotel room and said she hoped to catch the baseball game. We had been in contact constantly for weeks. When I asked the next day if she saw the game, she responded yes and that was it. Then the next day I told her that it might be better for her to rent a car with a coupon from Groupon. She said she had help that would cost her less. She said it would be good to have a car for the weekend. Cut and dry text. Haven't heard from her since. I had told her that I couldn't let her stay here because I am a huge slob. She had been saying that she hoped someone would offer her a room. And my other friend has serious mental problems and is religious to an extreme. I hadn't talked to her for over 20 years. So I am feeling bad. I think I lost a friend. I don't know why I haven't heard from her. I did so much to help her. She recognized that when we were still searching. My hope is that tomorrow I can write and say that I have cleaned and heard from my friend. Thanks! This is soooo long.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

One thing depressed people do (that successful people don't) is have a ladder of things to do, can't do D, until I do C, until B, can't go out with someone, till I loss weight, can't loss weight, till I get exercise, no access to a gym, so can't lose weight.
Effective people do 10 things independently, look for a gym, go out, go on vacation, etc.
You seem nice, why not try to socialize a little more, speak with people, and hopefully things will go better.
And my report today is that I was very tired yesterday and ended up texting with friends a lot and sleeping and got no housework done. I have not heard from my friend either.
Now to go look for Bill's group!
Lot's of great responses here. I am sorry about your friends.
I'm just taking a guess: you're friends without stable living situations
are probably ignoring you for reasons other than something that you did or said.
Even if they did ignore you because you were not able to offer them a place to live it's not your fault. You tried to help. There are services and programs out there. I don't mean to sound cruel but it might end disastrously. if one or both of them moved in.
Hoping that you'll be easier on yourself about both the friends and housework.
I hate housework too. I do a little bit at a time and live with others who help.
Your health and emotional well being are so important!
